The\u00a0Toxic Avenger<\/em><\/strong> reboot has added another cast member: Jacob Tremblay<\/strong>. The young\u00a0Room<\/em> and\u00a0Doctor Sleep<\/em> actor joins a cast being led by Peter Dinklage<\/strong>, with Macon Blair<\/strong> (Blue<\/em> Ruin<\/em>)\u00a0set to helm.\u00a0The Toxic Avenger<\/em> is based on the low-budget cult classic from\u00a0Troma Entertainment, about a weakling janitor who falls into a drum of toxic waste and transforms into a mutated superhero.<\/p>\n

Deadline is reporting the news<\/a> that\u00a0The Toxic Avenger<\/em> reboot cast will now include Jacob Tremblay. There\u2019s no word on who Tremblay is playing just yet, but he joins Peter Dinklage, who is playing the title character. Macon Blair, who co-wrote and starred in\u00a0Blue Ruin<\/em>, is directing the pic, which is based on the 1984 cult classic of the same name.
\nThis version of\u00a0The Toxic Avenger<\/em> will be a much more well-budgeted affair than any other film in the series<\/a>, all of which have been ultra-low-budget Z-grade movies known for their cheapness. In the original film, \u201cA 98-pound nerd from New Jersey lands in a vat of toxic waste and becomes a benevolent monster.\u201d It\u2019s not exactly what I\u2019d call a\u00a0good<\/em> movie, but it\u2019s earned its place in the cult canon. The original also spawned an entire franchise \u2013 the films\u00a0The Toxic Avenger Part II<\/em>, The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie<\/em>, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV<\/em>, as well as the animated\u00a0The Toxic Crusaders<\/em>, which also inspired a video game<\/a>, and an Off-Broadway musical.<\/p>\n

In the new take on the story, \u201cWhen a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.\u201d Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, who co-directed the original movie, are producing the reboot.<\/p>\n

\u201cMacon Blair knows Troma better than I do,\u201d Kaufman previously said<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019s seen everything. He\u2019s seen the cartoon, he\u2019s seen the Halloween special, he\u2019s seen everything. And he loves our movies like Troma\u2019s War<\/em> and Terror Firmer<\/em>. I\u2019ve read the script<\/a> and it\u2019s better than the original and I leave it to him. If I\u2019m called upon, I\u2019d be happy to jump in. I learned on the musical to leave the creative to the creative. I learned to let them ask so if they want me, I\u2019m there.\u201d<\/p>\n
