Screen goddess Audrey Hepburn<\/strong> has proven an elusive subject for biopics. The last attempt to adapt her rather incredible life into a biographical drama resulted in a corny TV movie which had Jennifer Love Hewitt doing an impression of the Hollywood icon. But maybe the company behind\u00a0The Young Pope<\/em> and\u00a0My Brilliant Friend<\/em> could do Hepburn justice \u2014 with the help of a talented writer in the form of\u00a0The Good Wife<\/em> scribe\u00a0Jacqueline Hoyt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> reports that The Good Wife<\/em>\u00a0writer and producer\u00a0Jacqueline Hoyt has been tapp<\/a>ed to write a limited drama series<\/a> called\u00a0Audrey<\/em><\/strong>, which will be a biographical adaptation of the life of Audrey Hepburn. (Don\u2019t mix it up with the documentary of the same name.) Italy\u2019s Wildside, the Fremantle company behind\u00a0The Young Pope<\/em> and\u00a0My Brilliant Friend<\/em>, is producing.
\nAudrey<\/em> is based on a treatment co-written by Hepburn\u2019s son\u00a0Luca Dotti <\/strong>(whose father, Italian psychiatrist Andrea Dotti, was married to Hepburn in 1970 before they divorced 10 years later), and Italian journalist and writer Luigi Spinola<\/strong>. Dotti and Spinola co-authored the 2015 bestseller Audrey at Home<\/em>, which was a part-biography, part-cookbook which combined anecdotes, excerpts from Hepburn\u2019s letters, her recipes, and some unpublished family photographs.<\/p>\n

In the book, \u201cLuca and Luigi explored the singularity of Audrey\u2019s real self,\u201d per a Wildside statement, adding that \u201cthe muse, the mother and the later humanitarian all closely relate to a girl that never stopped to be amazed by the gift of life.\u201d<\/p>\n

But\u00a0Audrey<\/em> will be more than a glorified family cookbook \u2014 the series will explore Hepburn\u2019s \u201cformative years,\u201d the statement said. As of now, there are no further details on the series or its casting.<\/p>\n

With a Hollywood icon like Hepburn, whose face graces countless college dorms and movie exhibition halls, there\u2019s an immedia<\/a>te burden on a biopic to \u201cget it right.\u201d But there\u2019s one major pitfall with trying to depict the actress of classics like\u00a0Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany\u2019s<\/em>, Sabrina<\/em>, and\u00a0My Fair Lady<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 she\u2019s known more for being the face of glamorous Hollywood fashion than for being a talented performer in her own right (which is a shame, because her charisma is through the roof) or for her later years as an activist. As a result, most depictions of her end up feeling more like impressions than flesh-and-blood portrayals, which is what you\u2019d need from a good biopic.<\/p>\n

But perhaps Hoyt could be the person to capture Hepburn\u2019s spirit for the series \u2014 she\u2019s written and produced for\u00a0The Good Wife<\/em> and\u00a0The Leftovers<\/em>, and most recently, Barry Jenkins\u2019 upcoming adaptation of\u00a0The Underground Railroad<\/em> for Amazon Prime Video. It all comes down to casting now.
\nAudrey<\/em>\u00a0will be executive produced by Wildside CEO Mario Gianani<\/strong> and Lorenzo Gangarossa<\/strong> with Ludovica Damiani<\/strong>, who originated the project. Dotti and Spinola will also serve as executive producers.<\/p>\n
