Microsoft OneDrive can back up your computer\u2019s Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders automatically for you. Here\u2019s how to back up your other Windows folders\u2014including Download<\/a>s, Music, and Videos\u2014to OneDrive as well.<\/p>\n

OneDrive has a feature called \u201cFolder Protection.\u201d This feature allows you to back up the contents of your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders to OneDrive so that you won\u2019t lose anything if your computer somehow gets corrupted.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has since renamed this functionality to \u201cManage Back Up\u201d of your \u201cImportant PC Folders,\u201d but it still works exactly the same as before.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

It\u2019s simple to have the Downloads, Music, and Video folders automatically backed up without having to dive into OneDrive\u2019s settings. You just have to change their location, and that\u2019s easy to do.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re going to show you how to do this for the Video folder, but you\u2019ll need to do this for each of the three folders individually if you want them all to be backed up by OneDrive.<\/p>\n

First, right-click the folder in Windows Explorer and select \u201cProperties\u201d from the context menu.<\/p>\n

Next, select the \u201cLocation\u201d tab.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Now, click the \u201cMove\u201d button.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Then, double-click \u201cOneDrive\u201d in the folder dialogue.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

Select an existing folder for your videos to be stored in, or click the \u201cNew Folder\u201d button to create a new folder. Once you\u2019ve chosen a folder, select it and click \u201cSelect Folder.\u201d<\/p>\n

The location of your Video folder will now change to the one you chose. Click \u201cOK\u201d to close the dialogue.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/p>\n

A warning dialogue will be displayed. Click \u201cYes\u201d to make sure that all of your files are where your apps expect them to be.<\/p>\n

Your Videos folder is now backed up to OneDrive. Repeat the steps above for the Downloads and Music folders if you want them to be backed up to OneDrive as well.<\/p>\n

This method will only work for Windows\u2019s default folders. If you\u2019ve created other folders in different locations that you\u2019d like to be backed up to OneDrive, you can move them into OneDrive, but that\u2019s not always a suitable solution. And if it isn\u2019t, the answer is to create symbolic links.<\/p>\n
