Scientific American has joined the growing list of news<\/a> outlets who are upgrading the term\u00a0climate change\u00a0to a \u201cclimate emergency.\u201d\u00a0In its warning, SA compares climate change to someone losing their breath and being rushed to the hospital in\u00a0the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe planet is heating up way too fast. It\u2019s time for journalism to recognize that the climate emergency is here,\u201d SA writes in\u00a0their statement<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The statement, co-authored by\u00a0Columbia Journalism Review, the Nation, the Guardian, Noticias Telemundo, Al Jazeera,\u00a0Asahi Shimbun\u00a0and\u00a0La Repubblica, insists that the word \u201cemergency\u201d best describes the current predicament.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy \u2019emergency\u2019? Because words matter. To preserve a livable planet, humanity must take action immedia<\/a>tely. Failure to slash the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will make the extraordinary heat, storms, wildfires and ice melt of 2020 routine and could \u2018render a significant portion of the Earth uninhabitable,’\u201d warned the January\u00a0Scientific American\u00a0article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The groups insist their take is based on science<\/a>, not politics. But skeptics\u00a0observe that the climate terms just app<\/a>ear to be changing with the wind.<\/p>\n

Climate change is also\u00a0being blamed<\/a>\u00a0by outlets like MSNBC for the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to anchor\u00a0Ayman Mohyeldin, climate change\u00a0is urging migrants to make their way into the U.S. because natural disasters are\u00a0\u201cmaking the farmland and agricultural base \u2026 that much harder to sustain the economic needs of a country that has 17 million people.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Biden has signed several climate change executive orders and promised aggressive spending on that front during his campaign. Conservative\u00a0concerns<\/a>\u00a0over Biden\u2019s approach were compounded with his nomination of Deb Baaland for\u00a0interior secretary, due to her sponsorship of\u00a0the far-left Green New Deal and endorsement of a fracking ban.\n <\/div>\n
