“#Officer wounded in Tennessee school wasn’t shot by student’s gun<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Tennessee teen who was fatally shot by police after he opened fire inside a high school bathroom was identified \u2014 as authorities revealed that a shot that wounded an officer in the struggle didn\u2019t come from the student\u2019s gun.<\/p>\n

Anthony J. Thompson, Jr., 17, became involved in the police confrontation Monday after he refused orders leave the bathroom at Austin-East Magnet High School in Knoxville, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said.<\/p>\n

Police on Wednesday said Thompson\u2019s gun fired once but didn\u2019t strike an officer \u2014 contradicting earlier law enforcement reports\u00a0that he shot and hit police.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreliminary examinations indicate the bullet that struck the [Knoxville Police Department] officer was not fired from the student\u2019s handgun,\u201d the TBI said.<\/p>\n

Police fired twice, and Thompson was shot and killed, authorities said.<\/p>\n

A school resource officer identified as Adam Willson was struck in the upper leg.<\/p>\n

The TBI declined to comment about whether Wilson was struck by an officer\u2019s bullet.<\/p>\n

In its statement Wednesday, the TBI said authorities \u201cdiscover facts that may clarify initial reports.\u201d<\/p>\n
