Then maybe you have what it takes to be the next \u201cSpace Hero\u201d \u2014 a new reality television show being developed with support from emerging commercial spaceflight company Axiom Space, by way of a Space Act Agreement signed with NASA Monday.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cSpace Hero\u201d intends to be known as \u201cthe world\u2019s first global competition to send a civilian into space on a $55 million, 10-day trip<\/a> to the ISS,\u201d according to a statement obtained by Space.com<\/a>, with a launch target set for 2023.<\/p>\n

The reality competition concept isn\u2019t in the works yet as the agreement \u201cdoes not authorize a private astronaut mission to the International Space Station,\u201d a NASA spokesperson told Space.com. The \u201cnonreimbursable\u201d deal was made \u201cfor the purpose of facilitating initial cooperation and information sharing between NASA and \u2018Space Hero,\u2019\u2009\u201d they added.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson continued to couch any and all excitement about the potential series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny decision for a longer term partnership beyond this initial feasibility study covered under the agreement will require additional follow on agreement(s) pending concept app<\/a>roval, distribution, and funding. If approved by NASA, the private astronaut mission and its associated commercial activities would be conducted as part of a separate, future agreement between NASA and a private astronaut mission provider\u201d \u2014 that private provider, in this case, being Axiom Space.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson further explained that, upon a successful feasibility assessment, \u201cSpace Hero\u201d producers would then prompt Axiom to submit a proposal seeking NASA\u2019s approval for their private astronaut mission,<\/p>\n

But there are high hopes for the show, as organizers have stated their ambitious goal of shooting 15 seasons\u2019 worth of \u201cSpace Hero\u201d over the course of 30 years, taking contestants to the moon, Mars and beyond \u2014 as technological innovations allow.<\/p>\n

Ideal candidates would be at least 18 or older, and fluent in English, according to the statement. \u201cEquality is our mission. We encourage women and men from all over the world to apply to become the \u2018Space Hero,\u2019 \u201d said the series\u2019 co-founder Deborah Sass. \u201cThis competition is a safe environment for everyone. Don\u2019t let gender be a hurdle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpace Hero\u201d is the latest in a new trend of cosmic competitions, including the forthcoming \u201cInspiration4\u201d mission, in which four amateur astronauts will launch into Earth\u2019s orbit via a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, or Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa\u2019s quest to find eight companions for a lunar mission dubbed \u201cdearMoon.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
