Westeros has just cast another resident.<\/p>\n

In the latest piece of House of the Dragon<\/strong><\/em> casting for HBO\u2019s first\u00a0Game<\/a> of Thrones<\/em> prequel, up-and-coming actor Fabien Frankel<\/strong>\u00a0has been enlisted to play Ser Criston Cole, a member of the Kingsguard for the Targaryen family. He previously app<\/a>eared in Last Christmas<\/em> with former Thrones<\/em> star Emilia Clarke, but he won\u2019t be encountering Daenerys in this new show, since it is set hundreds of years before the events of Game of Thrones<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> points out that\u00a0House of the Dragon<\/em>\u00a0co-creator and executive producer George R.R. Martin<\/strong> has added a new name to the show\u2019s cast: Fabien Frankel, who only has a few credits to his name thus far. He\u2019s appeared in Last Christmas<\/em>, an NYPD Blue<\/em> TV movie, a Netflix show called The Serpent<\/em>, and will soon be among the cast of a movie called Venice at Dawn<\/em>. He\u2019s essentially an unknown, which should help him fit into the world of Westeros without bringing in a bunch of extra baggage.
\nMartin revealed Frankel\u2019s casting on his blog<\/a>, revealing that the actor will be playing a swordsman named Ser Criston Cole. \u201cHe is the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven,\u201d Martin wrote. \u201cHe has no claim to lands or titles, all he has is his honor and his skill with sword and lance. He is a challenger, a champion, cheered by the commons, beloved of the ladies. He is a lover (or is he?), a seducer (or is he?), a betrayer (or is he?), a breaker of hearts and a maker of kings. Fire & Blood<\/em> readers know him as\u00a0Ser Criston Cole. House of the Dragon<\/em> viewers will know him as\u00a0Fabien Frankel.\u201d<\/p>\n

THR says that Cole is \u201ca member of King Viserys I Targaryen\u2019s Kingsguard, a knight whose bold actions helped pave the way to civil war.\u201d Viserys is being played by\u00a0Paddy Considine<\/strong>\u00a0(Hot Fuzz<\/em>), and the rest of the cast includes Matt Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(Doctor Who<\/em>),\u00a0Emma D\u2019Arcy\u00a0<\/strong>(Truth Seekers<\/em>),\u00a0\u00a0Olivia Cooke<\/strong>\u00a0(Sound of Metal<\/em>),\u00a0Sonoya Mizuno<\/strong> (Devs<\/em>), Rhys Ifans<\/strong> (The Amazing Spider-Man<\/em>),\u00a0Eve Best<\/strong> (Fate: The Winx Saga<\/em>), and\u00a0Steve Toussaint<\/strong> (Small Axe<\/em>).<\/p>\n

House of the Dragon<\/em> is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones<\/em> and focuses on the Targaryen family.\u00a0Ryan Condal<\/strong> (Colony<\/em>) and Miguel Sapochnik<\/strong> (Game of Thrones<\/em>) serve as co-showrunners. Production begins soon, and the show is set to debut on HBO in 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
