“#’NCIS’ Renewed for Season 19 \u2014 But Will Mark Harmon Be in It?<\/strong>”

There\u2019s good news<\/a>: NCIS<\/em><\/a> isn\u2019t going anywhere. CBS has renewed the procedural drama for its 19th season.<\/p>\n

However, while CBS did not announce whether Mark Harmon<\/a> will be back as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a> notes that he\u2019ll return, only it\u2019s unknown whether it will be full-time.<\/p>\n

According to an earlier report from THR<\/em><\/a>, Harmon had been considering saying goodbye to Gibbs this season until he learned that if he did, NCIS<\/em> would probably bid adieu as well. That led to the possibility of Harmon app<\/a>earing in some, but not all the episodes.<\/p>\n

Right now, the storyline can take Gibbs in either direction. He\u2019s been indefinitely suspended for not regretting beating up a man who was killing the losers in his dogfighting ring \u2014 and admitting he regretted not killing him \u2014 and he\u2019s subsequently spoken with an investigative reporter, Marcie Warren (played by Pam Dawber<\/a>, Harmon\u2019s wife), about the incident. That could spell the end of his time at NCIS in the same capacity and something could be written to explain why he\u2019s only around part of the time.<\/p>\n

Or, we could see Gibbs returning to work as the team leader, albeit potentially changed by his experience. The outcome of this will likely depend on how much we\u2019ll see Gibbs in Season 19.<\/p>\n

NCIS<\/em>\u2018 renewal comes as CBS is already saying goodbye to one of the spinoffs in the franchise, NCIS: New Orleans<\/em><\/a>. The Scott Bakula<\/a>-led drama\u2019s series<\/a> finale is set for Sunday, May 23. Los Angeles\u2019<\/em><\/a> fate has yet to be announced. Plus, there\u2019s potentially another spinoff, set in Hawaii, coming, with a female lead.<\/p>\n
