Real-life Rapunzel Nilanshi Patel, who set the Guinness World Record for the longest hair on a teenager, has had her locks lopped off in favor of a shorter do.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old, whose mane extended to a whopping 6 feet, 7 inches long, looked in the mirror after the dramatic chop and declared: \u201cIt\u2019s amazing! I look like a little princess!\u201d<\/p>\n

Now Patel is donating her shorn tresses to the Ripley\u2019s Believe It or Not! Museum in Hollywood, California.<\/p>\n

Incredibly, the luscious locks weighed in at 9 pounds, 4 ounces.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy hair gave me a lot,\u201d said the teen from Modasa, in the Indian state of Gujarat, recalling how she had not had it cut since the age of 6.<\/p>\n

But she added that she felt \u201cproud\u201d that it\u2019s being shipped to America where \u201cpeople will see and be inspired by my hair.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patel first set the Guinness record for longest hair on a teen when she was 16 and it measured 5 feet, 7 inches long. But she twice broke her own record, culminating in the last formal measuring in July 2020, just days before her 18th<\/sup> birthday, when her hair had grown to 6 feet, 7 inches long.<\/p>\n

The reason she hadn\u2019t visited the hairdressers since around 2008 was a \u201cbad experience\u201d involving a \u201chorrible haircut.\u201d She\u2019d vowed not to allow scissors near her scalp again.<\/p>\n

That all changed after a conversation with her mother, Kaminiben, when they discussed the possibility of the radical makeover.<\/p>\n

At first, Patel considered either auctioning off or donating her hair \u2014 which she affectionately called her \u201clucky charm\u201d \u2014 to make wigs for children with cancer. But Kaminiben convinced her it was so beautiful and precious, it should go on display \u201cto inspire\u201d others.<\/p>\n

As part of the deal, the mom said she\u2019d donate her own hair to the cancer wig program instead.<\/p>\n

In an adorable before and after video<\/a> doing the rounds on social media<\/a>, Patel was somewhat app<\/a>rehensive ahead of her date with the clippers.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited and a little bit nervous because I don\u2019t know how I\u2019m looking in the new hairstyle,\u201d she said. \u201cSo let\u2019s see what happens, but I hope it\u2019s going to be amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The footage shows her kissing her hair goodbye, telling it: \u201cI love you,\u201d \u201cthank you\u201d and crossing her fingers. Next, the hairdresser, who, with the assistance of Kaminiben, secured portions of the hair in bunches, sheared through the bulky strands.<\/p>\n

Since her old look had been a huge part of her identity, Patel winced as she heard the blades go to work.<\/p>\n

She was only allowed to see the final result once the hairdresser had refined his trim, dried the style with a blow dryer and used tongs.<\/p>\n

Patel\u2019s emotional mother led her blindfolded daughter to a mirror for the big reveal.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh my god, look at this!\u201d the young woman said, jumping up and down with joy and delighted by her reflection. \u201cI can\u2019t believe it!\u201d<\/p>\n

She repeatedly hugged and kissed Kaminiben before leaving the house to show off the bob. It\u2019s similar to the do famously modeled by French actress Audrey Tautou in the 2001 Oscar-nominated movie \u201cAm\u00e9lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cToday is a new beginning,\u201d concluded the teen.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
