Mad Men<\/em> creator Matthew Weiner<\/strong> has a new show coming our way. Weiner is developing a half-hour \u201cmystery dramedy\u201d for FX, and beyond that, details are slim. The untitled show will be Weiner\u2019s first new series<\/a> since Amazon\u2019s\u00a0The Romanoffs<\/em>, a show that had a great cast and a fun premise, but didn\u2019t seem to generate much buzz.<\/p>\n

Variety is reporting that Matthew Weiner will write and executive produce a \u201cmystery dramedy\u201d for FX. And\u2026that\u2019s it! There are zero other details here, friends. But a new series from Weiner is worth paying attention to. Weiner has been working in TV since the \u201990s, but made his bones first by working on\u00a0The Sopranos<\/em> and then moving on to create AMC\u2019s Mad Men<\/em>, one of the best TV shows of the 21st century.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0Mad Men<\/em>, Weiner went on to create the Amazon series\u00a0The Ramanoffs<\/em>, a star-studded show \u201cset around the globe, centering on separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family.\u201d That\u2019s a nifty premise, but the series never seemed to make much of an impact, and Amazon never bothered to give it a second season.<\/p>\n

Weiner also directed the very disapp<\/a>ointing 2013 movie\u00a0Are You Here<\/em>. It was barely released, and I can\u2019t remember the last time I heard anyone even mention it. I guess what I\u2019m getting at here is that despite Weiner\u2019s fantastic work on\u00a0The Sopranos<\/em> and\u00a0Mad Men<\/em>, he hasn\u2019t exactly set the world on fire with his other projects. And in 2017, former\u00a0Mad Men<\/em> writer\u00a0Kater Gordon accused Weiner of harassment.<\/p>\n

FX declined to comment to Variety on the veracity of the new series, so we\u2019ll just have to wait and see how this plays out. Should the show actually move forward it would mark Weiner\u2019s return to\u00a0basic cable, provided the series doesn\u2019t end up on FX on Hulu rather than just normal FX. In any case, FX Productions will produce the show.<\/p>\n
