The claws are coming out in the battle for reign as the superior summertime suds.<\/p>\n

Bad blood is brewing between adult beverage brands Four Loko and White Claw after the hard seltzer\u2019s recent move to boost alcohol proof has the premium malt liquor company bubbling over with shade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is one imposter among us<\/a>,\u201d Four Loko\u2019s official account tweeted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The thinly veiled barb came accompanied by an image of White Claw\u2019s latest flavorful innovation, Surge \u2014 a 16-ounce refreshment with 8% alcohol by volume.\u00a0<\/p>\n

White Claw\u2019s original line of boozy seltzers comes in 12-ounce containers that offer only a 5% buzz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know some consumers are looking for a higher alcohol option from White Claw,\u201d said John Shea, the company\u2019s chief marketing officer. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what White Claw Hard Seltzer Surge delivers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wrapp<\/a>ed in a navy blue can \u2014 starkly opposing the pearly white outer shell of its less-loaded predecessor \u2014 Surge comes in two new flavors: cranberry and blood orange.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The appeal of higher spirits and more exotic tastes has fans of White Claw\u2019s drunken cans going crazy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Excited drink enthusiasts tweeted things like: \u201cWhite Claw summer but it\u2019s White Claw Surge because the 8% ABV is NEEDED,\u201d and \u201cThe white claw surge drinks might end up being the drink of the year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Four Loko, however, isn\u2019t amused.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Accusing White Claw of being \u201cObsessed<\/a>\u201d \u2014 referring to Mariah Carey\u2019s certified-platinum 2009 hit about an overzealous wannabe \u2014 Four Loko digitally dragged Surge for allegedly trying to copy its winning fizzy formula. <\/p>\n

\u201cFour Loko walked so White Claw could run,\u201d the brand tweeted, insinuating that its longstanding production of malted libations and hard seltzers paved the way for competitors to join the market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Debuting its core flavors of carbonated cocktails in 2005, Four Loko had been a formidable contender in the game<\/a> of drinks before getting\u00a0banned in 2010\u00a0by the FDA. The beverage, with varieties with up to 14% ABV, earned the nickname<\/a>\u00a0\u201cblackout in a can.\u201d But Four Loko had a full comeback with hard seltzers in 2019, dubbing its 23.5-ounce cans filled with 12% ABV bubbly \u201cthe hardest seltzer in the universe.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

And while White Claw Surge\u2019s alcohol levels still aren\u2019t rising as high to the occasion as Four Loko\u2019s seltzers do, the latter brand is demanding their veteran honors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhite Claw seeing themselves get compared to Four Loko \u2026 Respect ur elders<\/a>,\u201d Four Loko tweeted.\u00a0<\/p>\n

White Claw and Four Loko did not return The Post\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But pandemic-exhausted commentators took to Twitter<\/a> debating over which tiddly juice they\u2019ll be toasting up this summer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
