If having a \u201cCast to Device\u201d option on your Windows 10 right-click context menu makes you nervous, you can remove the option completely by editing the\u00a0Windows registry. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Edit_the_Registry_Yourself\"><\/span>Edit the Registry Yourself<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To remove the \u201cCast to Device\u201d option from the context menu, you have two choices: You can edit the Windows Registry yourself or <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">download<\/a> our one-click hack in the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/720449\/how-to-remove-cast-to-device-option-from-windows-10-context-menu\/#moka_anchor_method2\">section below.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s our standard warning: The Registry Editor is a powerful tool. Misusing it can render your system unstable or even inoperable. Still, this is a simple hack, and if you follow the instructions completely, you shouldn\u2019t have any problems. If you haven\u2019t used the Registry Editor before, consider reading about how to use it before getting started. We also recommend backing up the Registry\u00a0(and your computer) before making any changes.<\/p>\n<p>If that sounds like too much of a hassle, just skip to the \u201cOne-Click Registry Hack\u201d section below. That way, it won\u2019t show up on the context menu list anymore.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-720983\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/name_string_this_value.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"Name the string value and hit enter.\" width=\"650\" height=\"147\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After that, close Registry Editor. For the change to take effect, you\u2019ll either need to log out and log back in or restart your computer. (You could also try restarting Explorer.exe manually as an alternative.)<\/p>\n<p>After you log back in (or restart Explorer.exe) and right-click a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> file, you\u2019ll notice that the \u201cCast to Device\u201d option has been removed from the context menu.<\/p>\n<p>If you ever want to add the \u201cCast to Device\u201d option back, you\u2019ll need to dive back into Registry Editor and delete the string you just added to the \u201cBlocked\u201d key under <code>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionShell Extensions<\/code>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <strong><em>How to Clean Up Your Messy Windows Context Menu<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 role=\"heading\" aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Download_Our_One-Click_Registry_Hack\"><\/span>Download Our One-Click Registry Hack<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you want to remove \u201cCast to Device\u201d from your context menu without having to go through the process listed above, you can download a special registry modification file we\u2019ve prepared.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/remove_cast_to_device_registry_hack.zip\">Download the \u201cCast to Device\u201d Removal Hack<\/p>\n<p>After you download the file, unzip it to any location, and you\u2019ll have two files: \u201cremove_cast_to_device.reg,\u201d which performs the hack, and \u201cundo_remove_cast_to_device.reg,\u201d which removes the hack (in case you change your mind).<\/p>\n<p>You shouldn\u2019t trust random registry files that you find on the internet without checking them first, so feel free to examine the file yourself and confirm that it works as we said. You can verify that it\u2019s not malicious by opening the file using Notepad (right-click and select \u201cEdit\u201d) and looking at its contents. Very simple.<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019re ready, just double-click the .REG file, and Registry Editor will open. You\u2019ll see a warning stating that adding information to the Registry could potentially damage your system. Click \u201cYes\u201d to continue.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-720991\" src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/yes_add_to_registry_editor.jpg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"When asked if you want to modify Registry, click &quot;Yes&quot;\" width=\"650\" height=\"214\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After that, you\u2019ll see another pop-up notifying you that the information was added to the Registry\u2014and it was. To have the change take effect, either log out and log back in or restart your PC. The next time you right-click a media file, you\u2019ll see that \u201cCast to Device\u201d is missing, which is exactly what we wanted.
