He was 75.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just received word that my friend Rusty Young has passed away and crossed that line into eternity,\u201d Poco cofounder Richie Furay, 76, confirmed in a statement to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/music\/news\/rusty-young-dead-poco-founder-country-rock-band-1234952776\/\">Variety<\/a>. \u201cMy heart is saddened; he was a dear and longtime friend who helped me pioneer and create a new Southern California musical sound called \u2018country rock.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young was the writer for Poco\u2019s biggest hit,\u00a01978\u2019s haunting \u201cCrazy Love,\u201d which was named the No. 1 adult contemporary song of 1979 and peaked at No. 17 on the overall Hot 100 that year, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/poco\/chart-history\/HSI\/song\/344574\">according to Billboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Furay continued, \u201cHe was an innovator on the steel guitar and carried the name Poco on for more than 50 years. Our friendship was real and he will be deeply missed. Schmit, (front) Paul Cotton and Richie Furay of Poco pose for a group portrait in 1973 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Redferns<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Born on Feb. 23, 1946, in Long Beach, California, Norman Russell Young grew up in Denver, Colorado and played lap steel in local groups before relocating to LA in 1967 to play steel on sessions for Buffalo Springfield\u2019s iconic final album,\u00a0\u201cLast Time Around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Young formed\u00a0Poco in the legendary \u201cSummer of Love\u201d with former Buffalo Springfield members Furay\u00a0and\u00a0Jim Messina, along with newcomer George Grantham. Timothy B. Schmit and Paul Cotton would join the band a few years later. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only reason we\u2019re talking now is \u2018Crazy Love,\u2019 \u201d Young <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/faroutmagazine.co.uk\/poco-co-founder-player-rusty-young-dead-at-75\/\">said in a 2008 interview<\/a>. \u201cThat was our first hit single. It\u2019s a classic \u2014 and it still pays the mortgage.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"684\" alt=\"Rusty Young in 1973 and 2017. The band\u2019s members changed over the years but the final lineup consisted of Young backed by Jack Sundrud, Rick Lonow and Tom Hampton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think things went the way they were supposed to go,\u201d Young <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goldminemag.com\/articles\/pocos-rusty-young-looks-life-45-years-crazy-love\">told Goldmine in 2014.<\/a> \u201cWe did have a big hit in 1978, and if it hadn\u2019t been for Richie leaving the band, and Timmy (Schmit) leaving the band, and Jimmy leaving the band, I never would have been a songwriter or a singer, so those things had to h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en for my life to be the life it is.
