“#Android Can Remind You to Look up While Walking”<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s no secret that smartphones can be distracting. We typically talk about this for driving, but that\u2019s not the only case. Walking around with your head buried in your phone can be dangerous, too. Android phones can help with this.<\/p>\n

The \u201cHeads Up<\/a>\u201d feature is available through Android\u2019s \u201cDigital Wellbeing\u201d suite of tools. At the time of writing, it\u2019s available for Google Pixel phones, although it should eventually roll out to more devices. Join the beta from the Google Play Store<\/a> to get it as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

To enable the feature, open the Settings menu by\u00a0swiping down from the top of the screen (once or twice, depending on your device) and tapp<\/a>ing the gear icon.<\/p>\n

Next, select \u201cDigital Wellbeing & Parental Controls\u201d from the Settings.<\/p>\n

You may see an introductory splash screen with information about the feature. Click \u201cNext\u201d if you do.<\/p>\n

If the splash screen doesn\u2019t appear automatically, tap \u201cHeads Up\u201d from the Digital Wellbeing settings, and then select the \u201cNext\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll be asked to give two permissions. \u201cPhysical Activity\u201d is used to detect when you\u2019re walking and it\u2019s required. \u201cLocation\u201d can be used to determine when you\u2019re outside, but it\u2019s optional.<\/p>\n

If you choose to give location permission, a pop-up will appear, and you\u2019ll need to select \u201cWhile Using the App,\u201d and then \u201cAllow All the Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tap \u201cNext\u201d when all the permissions have been granted.<\/p>\n

The next screen will say \u201cHeads Up is Ready to Go.\u201d You can tap \u201cDone,\u201d and the feature will be enabled. Next time your phone screen is on for a little too long while you\u2019re walking, you may see a notification like this:<\/p>\n
