Two days after Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald\u00a0was accused of assault stemming from a nightclub brawl in Pittsburgh, PA, his lawyer says video surveillance from the incident proves his client\u2019s innocence. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Todd J. Hollis, an attorney representing De\u2019Vincent Spriggs, filed a criminal complaint with Pittsburgh police alleging Donald and others assaulted his 26-year-old client at an after-hours club the weekend prior. At the time, Hollis also released a close-up photo that showed Spriggs\u2019 swollen face. <\/p>\n

On Friday, Donald\u2019s lawyer, Casey White \u2014 who said he doesn\u2019t anticipate that Pittsburgh authorities will charge the NFL star \u2014 explained his client\u2019s role in the incident by dissecting the newly released surveillance footage. <\/p>\n

Donald\u2019s lawyer said Spriggs swung a bottle that grazed Donald\u2019s head while unnamed friends attempted to restrain the seven-time Pro Bowl selection \u2014 before Donald began pulling others off Spriggs.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs he ducks, somebody from behind grabs him to stop him from interacting with this guy, Mr. Spriggs, so he holds Aaron back in a sense,\u201d White told ESPN<\/a>. \u201cAt that point, that\u2019s when other people come to Aaron\u2019s aid and defend him by removing, so to speak, Mr. Spriggs from the area where he is punched and he is fighting; it\u2019s a mutual fight at this point between other individuals who Aaron does not really know.\u201d<\/p>\n

White said he\u2019s obtained five witness accounts from the incident,<\/p>\n

\u201cAaron actually runs over to [Spriggs\u2019] aid and starts pulling people off of this guy,\u201d he added. \u201cHe\u2019s trying to get these kids off Spriggs; he gets at least two or three people off of Spriggs and at that point in time, somebody grabs Aaron and says, \u2018This is not a good situation, let\u2019s get the heck out of here.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The incident, according to Spriggs\u2019 attorney, began inside the nightclub when his client accidentally bumped into Donald. <\/p>\n

Though, Donald\u2019s attorney said Spriggs dug his elbow into Donald\u2019s back, which Donald initially disregarded and presumed was someone he knew.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe turned around and it\u2019s this Mr. Spriggs \u2026 and Aaron goes, \u2018What\u2019s up?\u2019 and Mr. Spriggs starts yelling belligerently, \u2018Did I mean to? Did I mean to?\u2019 He keeps repeating, it\u2019s kind of nonsensical, but he keeps yelling, \u2018Did I mean to?\u2019 It\u2019s app<\/a>arent to Aaron and it\u2019s apparent to all the witnesses that [Spriggs] is intoxicated,\u201d White explained. <\/p>\n

White said Spriggs was then escorted out of the establishment, where Donald, along with a colleague, encountered him shortly after in a back alleyway near the exit of the bar.<\/p>\n

As a result of the fight, Hollis said his client, Spriggs, needed 16 stitches and suffered a broken orbital bone, a broken nose, a concussion and a sprained or broken arm. <\/p>\n

The Rams, who selected Donald with the 13th overall pick in the 2014 draft, are aware of the situation and released a statement notifying that the team is \u201ccollecting more information.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
