They\u2019ve got themselves into a bloody mess.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The German men behind Pinky Gloves \u2014 a product intended to prevent people from getting menstrual blood on their hands while removing tampons or other period products \u2014 are being dragged on social media<\/a> for what many are calling a female body-shaming concept.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSo these dudes designed pink gloves so tampons and pads can be disposed of properly and discretely. I s\u2013t you not. (The text is translated from German),\u201d tweeted OB-GYN Jennifer Gunter<\/a> along with a translated screenshot of a post on Pinky Gloves\u2019 Instagram.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The post explains that two of the founders met in the army before moving into a \u201cwomen\u2019s flat\u201d and noticing that \u201cthere seems to be no good solution when it comes to disposal of tampons.\u201d It goes on to say their \u201cinventive spirit was awakened\u201d and they decided to come up with a solution \u2014 although many are now arguing that the concept, product and methodology are inherently sexist.<\/p>\n

\u201cPinky Gloves (@pinky_gloves on Insta) is a German start-up ran by men who think menstrual blood is unclean and that gloves are necessary when changing tampons or pads. Where do we even begin? There is nothing unhygienic about period blood. This is period shaming,\u201d tweeted<\/a> period tracking brand Clue in response.<\/p>\n

\u201c1. Men use a hand urinating, and are constantly adjusting or otherwise handling their junk 2. Studies show few men wash their hands after using public restrooms,\u201d reads one response to Gunter\u2019s viral tweet<\/a>. \u201cBut sure, men, make and shame women into using female genital gloves because our bodies freak you out. Grow TF up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the absolute dumbest things I have ever come across. And to look so incredibly proud of inventing a \u2018problem\u2019 to \u2018solve,\u2019\u201d reads<\/a> another.<\/p>\n

In response to the backlash, Pinky Gloves issued a statement on Instagram<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have not dealt adequately and properly with the subject. That was a big mistake,\u201d the brand wrote, according to a Google translation of it published by the Huffington Post<\/a>. \u201cWe take your feedback very seriously and [will] rethink our product and reflect on the entire history of its creation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pinky Gloves did not immediately return The Post\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0\n <\/p><\/div>\n
