{"id":229280,"date":"2021-04-17T00:15:31","date_gmt":"2021-04-16T21:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/city-dwellers-arent-more-likely-to-get-covid-19-study\/"},"modified":"2021-04-17T00:15:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-16T21:15:31","slug":"city-dwellers-arent-more-likely-to-get-covid-19-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/city-dwellers-arent-more-likely-to-get-covid-19-study\/","title":{"rendered":"#City-dwellers aren&#8217;t more likely to get COVID-19: study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#City-dwellers aren&#8217;t more likely to get COVID-19: study<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Say what you will about New York\u2019s giant rats, Los Angeles\u2019 smog and Chicago\u2019s crime rates, but these crowded cites are not more likely to put residents at risk of contracting COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>Data from a health <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> based in Tehran, Iran \u2014 an early epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic \u2014 have shown that busy cities are relatively safe this pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>Population \u201cdensity alone cannot be considered a risk factor,\u201d researchers wrote in a new study, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S2210670721001992\">published in Sustainable Cities and Society<\/a>, a peer-reviewed journal focused on architecture and urban planning. <\/p>\n<p>Their findings come with a caveat though. They noted the difference between \u201chigh density\u201d and \u201covercrowding,\u201d with the latter suggesting more hurdles to achieving a safe <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> distance among residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat drives the spread of infectious disease during a pandemic is overcrowding that operates differently from density and can also occur in districts with a low density,\u201d study authors wrote. \u201cAs a result, metropolitan areas and densely populated zones can also be safe during the pandemic, as density alone cannot be considered a risk factor for Covid-19.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" alt=\"Overcrowding is the real risk during pandemic times -- not the cities themselves.\" class=\"wp-image-17989721 lazyload\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/big-cities-covid-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/big-cities-covid-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/big-cities-covid-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/big-cities-covid-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/big-cities-covid-01.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2000 2000w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Overcrowding is the real risk during pandemic times \u2014 not the cities themselves.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">EPA<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Researchers at the Universities of Tehran and Isfahan, as well as from Hiroshima University in Japan, retrieved data collected by Iran\u2019s national COVID-19 contact tracing app, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.loc.gov\/law\/help\/coronavirus-apps\/iran.php\">AC19<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tehran has more than 8.6 million residents throughout 22 districts, yet neighborhood density was least of all consequential in terms of COVID-19 distribution. More critical factors included age, wealth and health care access, as well as behavioral variables, such as the likelihood of some residents to follow public health recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>For example, coronavirus mortality rates tended to be higher in communities with a greater proportion of the elderly. Meanwhile, indicators such as higher education level and car ownership pointed to a reduced instance of disease, the study found.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers concede that their report may not reflect a current analysis of the trends due to a lack of fresh data.<\/p>\n<p>The AC19 Android app was withdrawn from Google\u2019s app store late last year over privacy concerns, amid allegations that the Iranian government was collecting location data of millions of citizens, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/epgkmz\/iran-launched-an-app-that-claimed-to-diagnose-coronavirus-instead-it-collected-location-data-on-millions-of-people\">according to a Vice News report<\/a>. The app of course remained available through Iran\u2019s own app store Cafe Bazaar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is perhaps too early to draw definitive conclusions, so future research should continue to investigate the relationship between urban density and transmission patterns of infectious disease,\u201d said University of Tehran researcher Nabi Moradpour, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurekalert.org\/pub_releases\/2021-04\/hu-hdu041621.php\">in a statement attached to the study<\/a>.\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
