“#How woke mayoral candidates want to NYC into Communist ‘utopia’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of 9\/11, our leaders \u2014 for all their differences \u2014 mostly shared the same goals: to rebuild what was lost, restore the economy and rekindle faith in the Big App<\/a>le\u2019s historic and inherent greatness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But for the candidates running in the June 22 Democratic mayoral primary, the COVID-19 plague is no occasion to honor our underlying strength. Rather, it\u2019s a woke-up call to \u201cfix\u201d our allegedly irredeemable systemic racism, social<\/a> injustice, police brutality, income inequity and environmental exploitation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

An \u201cagrarian\u201d future for New York City? A \u201cpeople\u2019s bank\u201d to redistribute wealth? Our mayoral hopefuls have harnessed the old liberal battle cry, \u201cNever let a crisis go to waste,\u201d to saddle up a jolly Trojan horse of far-left wish lists masquerading as remedies to the worst economic and social crisis the city has ever seen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Instead of legitimately debating how City Hall should tackle genuine issues once COVID-19 abates \u2014 like reining in mentally-ill pushers on the subway \u2014 our mayoral wannabes prefer to toss around the Marxist-Leninist lingo of \u201cthe people,\u201d \u201crevolution\u201d and \u201credistribution.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Comptroller Scott Stringer says the \u201cpandemic has heightened our hunger crisis\u201d and wants to spend $25 million on \u201cfood security\u201d for \u201cundocumented New Yorkers\u201d \u2014 i.e., illegal immigrants. But that\u2019s not all. He wants \u201ca holistic approach to dismantle systemic racism in food policy that shapes how people grow, sell, and eat food.\u201d A lofty goal indeed for a city that can\u2019t install public toilets or keep outdoor restaurants safe from rats<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

To Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, \u201cThe pandemic exposed the deep inequities in our food system.\u201d He would address them with \u201ca new agrarian economy<\/a>.\u201d Hopefully bananas on our roofs will work better than in Cambodia\u2019s \u201cagrarian utopia\u201d where millions were slaughtered in the Khmer Rouge\u2019s killing fields.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Maverick candidate Andrew Yang says \u201cno one should consider the recovery from the pandemic a success\u201d until \u201cgains in employment, income and social mobility are evenly distributed.\u201d Even though Yang is no Marxist, he says he\u2019d establish a \u201cPeople\u2019s Bank<\/a>\u201d to make it happen. How well that worked in the USSR!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Former Citibank executive Ray McGuire, perhaps the most \u201cmoderate\u201d candidate, wants mobile \u201cDoctors to the People<\/a>\u201d clinics \u2014 i.e., a $10 million roving truck fleet \u2014 \u201cto tackle the dire health care inequities exposed by the COVID pandemic.\u201d I thought such \u201cinequities\u201d were clear decades before the virus hit our city, but there\u2019s nothing like the C-word to make a long-standing reality of city life seem freshly revealed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

These \u201cprogressive\u201d whims are in thrall to national trends: President Biden\u2019s $1.9 trillion \u201crelief\u201d plan includes $90 million to bail out underfunded union pension plans, while urban teachers want $1 billion, in part, to achieve their long-held goal of creating \u201csmaller class sizes in the city\u2019s neediest schools.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least one mayoral candidate \u2014 Dianne Morales \u2014 actually wholeheartedly embraces these radical ideas. She wants to<\/a> \u201cdivest from the police, invest in the people\u201d and suggests we junk the old New York City altogether. \u201cThis is the moment for us to throw out the old playbook and the old rules,\u201d she recently told<\/a> The Root. \u201cThe notion of property ownership is one that was man-made,\u201d Morales said. \u201cIt\u2019s an economic paradigm that we can change. We can focus on social housing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nobody thinks she stands a chance of winning. But nobody thought Bill de Blasio had a hope in hell either, and the new weighted-vote system \u2014 where voters can rank up to five candidates in order of their choice, and the one who gets the most votes over 50 percent wins \u2014 makes any outcome possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With candidates like these, New York could face a heartbreaking destiny: a city that overcame the pandemic, only to be destroyed by a mayor who delivers woke ruination.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
