“#What Jets might do at tight end<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

As part of The Post\u2019s 2021 NFL Draft preview, we examine\u00a0what the Jets might do at each position.\u00a0Saturday: Tiger end<\/em><\/p>\n

This one is a tough one to gauge, because we have not heard from any of the Jets\u2019 coaches on what they think of Chris Herndon.<\/p>\n

It really comes down to their evaluation of the fourth-year player, who has been a disapp<\/a>ointment the past two years. If new coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur are ready to move on, the Jets could draft a tight end in the middle rounds. It would surprise me if they took one before the third round, because there are so many other more pressing needs. But using one of their two third-round picks or a Day 3 pick on a tight end might make sense.<\/p>\n

Michigan\u2019s Ben Mason, Jacob Harris from Central Florida and Tre\u2019 McKitty from Georgia are all projected as Day 3 picks at the position.<\/p>\n

Saleh and LaFleur are coming from San Francisco, where the 49ers struck gold with George Kittle in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. They may view it as a position at which you can find value late in the draft and take a flier on a tight end even if they still have hopes for Herndon developing. The Jets also still have Ryan Griffin, Trevon Wesco and recently signed Tyler Kroft on the roster.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
