Monty Python legend John Cleese trolled Hank Azaria over his publicly announced regret for voicing \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d character Apu \u2014 penning his own tongue-in-cheek \u201capology.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot wishing to be left behind by Hank Azaria, I would like to apologise on behalf on Monty Python for all the many sketches we did making fun of white English people,\u201d Cleese tweeted<\/a> earlier this week. \u201cWe\u2019re sorry for any distress we may have caused.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 81-year-old comedy king\u2019s post came the same day Azaria apologized for his stereotypical portrayal of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon\u00a0\u2014 the fictitious Indian American owner of Springfield\u2019s Kwik-E-Mart.<\/p>\n

\u201cPart of me feels like I need to go to every single Indian person in this country and personally apologize,\u201d Azaria said in a new interview. \u201cAnd sometimes I do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cleese, who has 5.7 million Twitter<\/a> followers, is known for his acerbic tweets against \u201cwoke-ism.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStarted out as a good idea \u2013 Let\u2019s be nice to people\u2019 \u2013 and finished up as a humorless, censorious, literal-minded, posturing idiocy,\u201d he tweeted <\/a>Wednesday, replying to a tweet that said, \u201cMan, that #wokeism is going too far imo acting like the ministry of good taste and censorship and lacking a decent sense of humour.\u201d<\/p>\n

The English-born Cleese is one of the founding members of the Monty Python comedy troupe, which became a cult classic with its BBC comedy series<\/a> and 1975 movie \u201cMonty Python and the Holy Grail.\u201d<\/p>\n
