“#Birdwatcher not cooperating with investigation into Central Park \u2018Karen\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n The man at the center of the Central Park \u2018Karen\u2019 fiasco has said he will not cooperate with the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s investigation, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

Christian Cooper, told the New York Times on Tuesday that Amy Cooper, 41, has suffered enough since the May encounter that destroyed her career and reputation.<\/p>\n

Amy Cooper\u00a0was charged on Monday with falsely reporting an incident in the third degree.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the one hand, she\u2019s already paid a steep price,\u201d Mr. Cooper, 57, told the paper, referring to the criminal charge. \u201cThat\u2019s not enough of a deterrent to others?\u201d<\/p>\n

The avid birdwatcher added, \u201cBringing her more misery just seems like piling on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo if the DA feels the need to pursue charges, he should pursue charges. But he can do that without me,\u201d he said, adding that\u00a0greater principles are at stake.<\/p>\n

In a now-viral May video that sparked national outrage, Cooper, a white woman, told the birdwatcher she is going to call the cops and \u201ctell them there\u2019s an African American man threatening my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease tell them whatever you like,\u201d Christian, who is no relation, responds.<\/p>\n

She is seen taking out her cellphone, and telling police, \u201cI\u2019m in the Ramble and an African American man with a bicycle helmet, he is recording me and threatening my dog.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continues, \u201cThere is an African American man. I am in Central Park. He is recording me and threatening myself and my dog.\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman starts to shake and says, \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I can\u2019t hear \u2026 I\u2019m being threatened by a man in the Ramble, please send the cops immedia<\/a>tely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amy Cooper \u2014 who later apologized for the incident \u2014 was fired from her job at the investment firm Franklin Templeton.<\/p>\n

She is set to be be arraigned in October, and could face up to a year in prison for her 911 call.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
