Despite his funeral being a vastly scaled-down affair due to COVID-19 restrictions, Prince Philip stuck it to Meghan, Harry and Oprah with his regal send-off.<\/p>\n

The final sacrifice of the often contrarian husband of Queen Elizabeth II \u2013 who walked two paces behind his wife for 73 years \u2013 was to elicit admiration, awe and sympathy for the Crown after it came so brutally under fire from their jibes.<\/p>\n

What better way to erase the optics of that infamous interview in the gardens of a Santa Barbara mansion than to dazzle the world with British pomp and circumstance at Windsor Castle?<\/p>\n

Whether it was the colorful military uniforms, gleaming swords and medals or the marching band, gun salutes and his beloved horse carriage, the pageantry born of centuries of tradition showed the pettiness of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex whining on primetime TV.<\/p>\n

The stoic, unfaltering service of the Duke of Edinburgh \u2014 whose other titles and styles included Admiral of the Fleet, Field Marshal in the Army and Marshall of the Royal Air Force \u2014 makes Meghan complaining about being bullied, while sporting a $4.7K Armani dress and $695 four-inch Aquazzura heels, seem irrelevant.<\/p>\n

Prince Harry\u2019s grown-man bleating: \u201cI feel let down\u201d by his father, Prince Charles, and gob-smacking complaint: \u201cmy family literally cut me off financially\u201d (even though he inherited $13 million from his mother<\/a>, Princess Diana) are all the more absurd.<\/p>\n

According to Prince Philip\u2019s close friend and biographer, Gyles Brandreth, the Duke thought the couple\u2019s tawdry tell-all was \u201cmadness.\u201d He did not agree with their decision to step back from their royal duties, but was essentially resigned to it, saying: \u201cIt\u2019s his [Harry\u2019s] life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without Meghan by his side, the fourth grandchild cut a lonely figure in the quire of St. George\u2019s Chapel. It was like a scene from \u201cThe Christmas Carol\u201d where his past life flashed before him. Watching the elaborate display of respect towards the queen\u2019s \u201cmain strength and stay,\u201d might Harry have wanted it back? After all, a future of Netflix deals and barefoot yoga only goes so far.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile Prince William put on a show of loyalty by walking alongside and chatting with his brother after the service. It was a generous move considering all the abuse the Sussexes have hurled at the Windsor family, even as the Duke lay dying in the hospital.<\/p>\n

It\u2019d be interesting to know whether the congeniality continued in private during the funeral buffet that followed. And did Princess Anne \u2014 the senior royal hinted to have inquired about the skin color<\/a> of Harry and Meghan\u2019s future off-spring \u2014 challenge her nephew over the deviled eggs?<\/p>\n

Whatever, as he was lowered into the chapel vault amid the fanfare and splendor, Prince Philip must have chortled at a job well done.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
