Sunday will be Jay Bruce\u2019s last game<\/a> as a Yankee \u2014 and an MLB player.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old outfielder\/first baseman will retire after Sunday\u2019s game against the Rays, manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

Boone said Bruce came to him on Friday and had a long talk about his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cUltimately I just felt like I couldn\u2019t perform at the level I expected out of myself,\u201d Bruce said. \u201cIt\u2019s tough, but I feel at peace with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bruce had played 10 games for the Yankees this season, but was 4-for-34 with one home run and was being phased out of the lineup recently.<\/p>\n

Bruce played 14 seasons in the big leagues, including three with the Mets. He played parts of nine seasons with the Reds, making three All-Star Games, and finishes with 319 career home runs.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
