It was far from the purr-fect crime.<\/p>\n

A drug-runner\u2019s fluffy white cat was caught trying to smuggle narcotics into a prison in Panama, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The feline felon was carrying the contraband in a pouch tied around its neck when it was stopped outside the Nueva Esperanza Prison in the province of Colon on Friday, AFP reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe animal had a cloth tied around its neck\u201d that contained wrapp<\/a>ed packages of white powder, leaves and \u201cvegetable matter,\u201d said Andres Gutierrez, head of the Panama Penitentiary System.<\/p>\n

The substances were likely cocaine and marijuana, according to another official.<\/p>\n

Local prosecutors said they had opened an investigation into the use of animals for sneaking illegal substances into the Nueva Esperanza facility, which houses more than 1,700 prisoners.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the criminal cat in question will be taken to a pet adoption center, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time critters have been used as drug-runners by prisoners in the Central American country.<\/p>\n

Authorities have previously intercepted attempted drug deliveries by homing pigeons and even drones.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
