\nLance Bass<\/strong> offered some advice to Colton Underwood<\/strong> as he thinks the reality star will face some backlash after coming out. But it\u2019s not for the reason you may think\u2026<\/p>\n

The former NSYNC<\/strong> singer got real on the latest episode of the Ben & Ashley I. Almost Famous Podcast<\/em>, explaining how he relates to the Bachelor<\/em> lead since \u201c90 percent of my fans were women, and they all thought I was straight.\u201d As you may know, Bass came out as gay in 2006 when he app<\/a>eared on the cover of People<\/em>\u2019s July issue that year.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made my money off women and singing about love and using that market. So me coming out, it was scary \u2026 cause now everyone is gonna see me as a liar..\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The boy band member went on to explain that Colton might come under fire within the very community he\u2019s joining because he plans to document and monetize his coming out story in a new Netflix<\/strong> docuseries<\/a>. He stated:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis gay community is very diverse, but we can also be very fickle. He\u2019s definitely gonna get a lot of backlash from the community at first.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Bass quickly clarified his statement to note how he actually referred to \u201ca small percentage\u201d of the LGBTQIA+ community who are \u201cjust gonna not like the fact that he came out this way, that he\u2019s monetizing the experience.\u201d The 41-year-old actor continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t think he deserves this attention, and one of those reasons is, and this is what I experienced when I came out\u2026 when you first come out, most people have no clue about the LGBT community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If Colton were to face backlash, it should be because the streaming service gave a platform to someone who literally stalked and terrorized his girlfriend, Cassie Randolph<\/strong>. Just saying, there\u2019s still no excuse for that.<\/p>\n

Bass continued to say how people who have come out won\u2019t always \u201cknow what the issues are because they\u2019ve been so separated from the purpose,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen someone comes out as a public figure, so many people immedia<\/a>tely go, \u2018It\u2019s too late.\u2019 They don\u2019t like to support it because they don\u2019t feel like you know what you\u2019re talking about yet. But I don\u2019t think Colton is trying to lead that charge of trying to be the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite the potential backlash, the star said the series is \u201conly going to help the community\u201d but emphasized that Colton needs to take the time to \u201clisten\u201d first:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s all you need to do right now, is just listen to the community, listen to everyone around you. Educate yourself, and then you\u2019ll naturally find where you belong in this community. But the best thing to do right now is sit back, listen and learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You could say that again!<\/p>\n

In case you missed it, Underwood came out as gay in a Good Morning America<\/em> interview with Robin Roberts<\/strong> earlier this week. During the chat, the reality star said he questioned his sexuality often throughout his childhood and high school years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve ran from myself for a long time. I\u2019ve hated myself for a long time. I came to terms with that earlier this year and have been processing it, and the next step in all of this was sort of letting people know. I\u2019m still nervous. It\u2019s been a journey for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He also admitted to feeling \u201cemotional\u201d but felt \u201cthe happiest and healthiest that I\u2019ve ever been in my life, and that means the world to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
