\n Fans have launched a petition to rename New York City\u2019s Longacre Theatre in memory of Broadway star Nick Cordero, who passed away on Sunday due to complications from coronavirus.<\/p>\n

The Longacre, which was home to Cordero\u2019s last broadway show \u201cA Bronx Tale,\u201d was built in 1912 and is currently named after Longacre Square \u2014 the original name for Times Square. The rechristened theatre would be called \u201cThe Nick Cordero Theatre.\u201d<\/p>\n

The petition had over 26,000 signatures on\u00a0Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018A Bronx Tale, The Musical\u2019 was the last Broadway show Nick Cordero starred in. This musical set a record as the longest-running musical in Longacre history,\u201d the petition reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the passing of this incredibly talented and beloved Broadway star, it is the perfect memory for him and his family legacy, to assure his name will always be in lights in the Broadway Community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cordero, who was 41 at the time of his death, was admitted to the Cedar-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles back in April. He had his right leg amputated, and was held in a medically induced coma for the majority of his hospitalization.<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe, which was set up following Cordero\u2019s death to help support his wife, Amanda Cloots, as well as his year-old son Elvis, has over\u00a0$984,630 with the original goal set at $48,000.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
