\n GOLD COAST, Australia \u2014 Two-time world snowboard champion and Winter Olympian Alex Pullin drowned Wednesday while spearfishing on Australia\u2019s Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said a 32-year-old man, later identified as Pullin, was unresponsive when taken from the water and died despite receiving CPR from lifeguards and emergency treatment from paramedics.<\/p>\n

The accident happ<\/a>ened at Palm Beach around 10:40 a.m. local time. Pullin had been diving on an artificial reef when he was found by a snorkeler.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnother diver was out there and located him on the sea floor and raised the attention of nearby surfers who sought lifeguards to bring him in,\u201d police said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t have an oxygen mask. We understand he was free diving and spearfishing out on the reef.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pullin, known by the nickname Chumpy, won gold medals in the snowboard cross event at the 2011 La Molina and 2013 Stoneham world championships. He was Australia\u2019s flag bearer at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s winter sports body Snow Australia said it was shocked and saddened by Pullin\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur deepest condolences are with Alex\u2019s family, as well as his teammates and support staff,\u201d Snow Australia said in a statement. \u201cAlex was a beloved member of the Snow Australia community and he will be dearly missed.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
