“#Jude Law circling Captain Hook role in Disney\u2019s new \u2018Peter Pan\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Jude Law may be heading to Neverland. The actor\u00a0is in talks to play the classic Disney villain, Captain Hook, in the studio\u2019s live-action Peter Pan film \u201cPeter Pan & Wendy,\u201d sources tell Variety<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPete\u2019s Dragon\u201d director David Lowery is on board to direct the project. Lowery co-wrote the script<\/a> with Toby Halbrooks, and Jim Whitaker is producing.<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s 1953 animated classic is still the most successful adaptation of the J.M. Barrie novel about Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn\u2019t age and the children whom he whisks away to the magical world of Neverland. Many other studios have made their own versions on the big and small screens, including Steven Spielberg\u2019s \u201cHook\u201d starring Robin Williams and Joe Wright\u2019s \u201cPan,\u201d both of which disappointed at the box office.<\/p>\n

If the deal closes, Law would follow in the footsteps of Dustin Hoffman, Jason Isaacs and, most recently, Garrett Hedlund as actors who have played the iconic pirate antagonist in previous retellings of the story.<\/p>\n

Sources say the release is expected to be theatrical and not go the Disney Plus streaming route.<\/p>\n

Disney is coming off a very strong year of live-action adaptations with both \u201cAladdin\u201d and \u201cThe Lion King\u201d grossing $1 billion at the global box office. Disney was so happy with its \u201cAladdin\u201d live-action film that it has already begun developing a sequel to the film.<\/p>\n

Law is coming off of HBO\u2019s \u201cThe New Pope.\u201d He was also recently seen in Paramount\u2019s \u201cRhythm Section.\u201d He is also set to reprise his role of Dumbledore in the next \u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them\u201d installment.<\/p>\n

He is repped by CAA, Julian Belfrage Associates and Jackoway Austen.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
