“#Mad Max Spin-Off Furiosa Will Shoot in Australia Next Year \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Furiosa will return. Soon.\u00a0Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em><\/strong> director George Miller<\/strong> and Thor<\/em> franchise star Chris Hemsworth<\/strong> held a press conference in New South Wales to announce production on the spin-off Furiosa<\/em><\/strong> will be taking place in Australia next year. Unlike Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>, which had a story that unfolded across a few days, Miller teased that Furiosa<\/em> would be a saga that unfolds over many years. <\/span><\/p>\n

Australian reporter Angela Bishop was on-hand for the Furiosa<\/em> press conference with George Miller:<\/p>\n

\nMiller stopped short of revealing any other details about the anticipated prequel that will focus on a younger version of the character played by Charlize Theron<\/strong> in Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em>. As we learned last year,\u00a0The Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/em> star Anya Taylor-Joy\u00a0<\/strong>will be playing this version of Furiosa, with\u00a0Chris Hemsworth and Aquaman<\/em> co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II<\/strong>\u00a0rounding out the cast.<\/p>\n

Hemsworth is currently shooting Marvel\u2019s Thor: Love & Thunder<\/em> in Australia with director Taika Waititi. Even though he\u2019s already one of the biggest superheroes to ever grace the silver screen, the Australian actor said getting the chance to be in a Mad Ma<\/em>x movie is the \u201cbiggest pinch-myself moment.\u201d He added, \u201cIt is a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Premier Gladys Berejiklian<\/strong> joined in the press conference to reveal Furiosa<\/em> will be the biggest film production Australia has ever seen, injecting loads of money into the economy and bringing many jobs to New South Wales:<\/p>\n

\nThe Sydney Morning Herald<\/em><\/a> reports that director George Miller had intended to shoot an action sequence this summer before higher tax incentives expired. But since the government chose not to reduce the tax incentives for film productions in Australia, they no longer have to rush to get it done. Miller said, \u201cWe had vehicles built, stunts prepared and we were well into that process,\u201d but now they\u2019ll wait until next year to shoot.<\/p>\n

Mad Max: Fury Road<\/em> also shot in Australia, but it created a bit of an issue for the production. Heavy rain in the desert around Broken Hill changed the landscape too much and delayed the shoot, forcing the crew to finish shooting in Namibia instead. Hopefully the weather cooperates more for Furiosa<\/em> so we don\u2019t have to wait a long time to see it on the big screen. For Miller\u2019s part, he said Furiosa is \u201ca story that I can\u2019t wait to see in a cinema.\u201d We couldn\u2019t agree more.<\/p>\n

Furiosa<\/em> is currently set for release in theaters on June 23, 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
