Florida, America\u2019s most questionable state, is the setting of\u00a0Florida Man<\/em><\/strong>, a new Netflix drama series that will star Edgar Ramirez<\/strong>. The series finds Ramirez playing an ex-cop who heads to the Sunshine State on a job to find a missing person, only to have everything go very, very wrong, as things are often wont to do down there in Florida. The series comes from creator Donald Todd<\/strong>, a producer on\u00a0This Is Us<\/em>, Sleepy Hollow<\/em>,\u00a0Selena: The Series<\/em>, and more.\u00a0Jason Bateman<\/strong>\u2018s Aggregate will produce the series for Netflix as part of their first-look deal to develop film and TV projects for the streaming giant.<\/p>\n

THR<\/a> is reporting that Edgar Ramirez will star in\u00a0Florida Man<\/em>, a Netflix series described as \u201ca\u00a0wild odyssey into a sunny place for shady people in the spirit of Body Heat<\/em> and Elmore Leonard\u2019s Out of Sight<\/em>.\u201d That sounds pretty darn good, all things considered. Florida is a strange, often embarrassing state \u2013 but it can make for a great setting for stories like this.
\nThe series \u201cfollows what happ<\/a>ens when a struggling ex-cop (Ramirez) is forced to return to his home state to find a Philly mobster\u2019s runaway girlfriend. What should be a quick gig becomes a spiraling journey into buried family secrets, and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong.\u201d Netflix gave the show\u00a0an eight-episode, straight-to-series order.\u00a0Ramirez recently appeared in the Netflix movie\u00a0Yes Day\u00a0<\/em>and the HBO series\u00a0The Undoing<\/em>. He\u2019ll next be seen in the Disney flick\u00a0Jungle Cruise<\/em>, and he\u2019s currently filming\u00a0Borderlands<\/em> with director Eli Roth. He\u2019s a memorable actor, and I like the idea of him getting his own Netflix series.<\/p>\n

Aggregate Films, which was founded by Jason Bateman and which\u00a0currently has a first-look deal with Netflix to generate film and television projects, will produce the Florida Man\u00a0<\/em>series. Aggregate also produces Bateman\u2019s Ozark<\/em> for Netflix, and while I have yet to get around to watching that show, I know lots of people love it.\u00a0Ozark<\/em>\u00a0is coming to an end with its fourth season, so it\u2019s probably time to start catching up. As for\u00a0Florida Man<\/em>, the upcoming series comes from writer and creator Donald Todd.\u00a0Todd wrote episodes of\u00a0This Is Us<\/em>,\u00a0Sleepy Hollow<\/em>,\u00a0Ugly Betty<\/em>, and more. He\u2019ll serve as showrunner and will executive produce alongside Bateman and Aggregate\u2019s Michael Costigan.<\/p>\n
