{"id":230946,"date":"2021-04-20T02:03:23","date_gmt":"2021-04-19T23:03:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/subway-franchisees-eye-changes-in-letter-to-elisabeth-deluca\/"},"modified":"2021-04-20T02:03:23","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T23:03:23","slug":"subway-franchisees-eye-changes-in-letter-to-elisabeth-deluca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/subway-franchisees-eye-changes-in-letter-to-elisabeth-deluca\/","title":{"rendered":"#Subway franchisees eye changes in letter to Elisabeth DeLuca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Subway franchisees eye changes in letter to Elisabeth DeLuca<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A group of Subway Restaurant store owners are vying to be heard amid rumors that America\u2019s largest restaurant chain is gussying itself up for a potential sale.<\/p>\n<p>An anonymous group of franchisees who claim to represent 250 Subway stores, or 1 percent of its total US locations, posted an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/elisabethdelucaopenletter.com\/\">open letter on Monday to Elisabeth DeLuca<\/a>, the widow of their dead co-founder Fred DeLuca, with a list of demands they claim could help improve their lot \u2014 \u00a0as well as Subway\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Requested changes include giving store operators the ability to source their own produce, to negotiate changes to franchise agreements, and to lease properties from landlords other than Subway. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Subway Franchisees we don\u2019t directly lease our stores from the landlord, the letter to DeLuca, 73, said. \u201cWe sublease them from Subway even though we are the ones that find and choose the locations. So if Subway wants to kick us out of our locations for any reason, they are within their legal rights to, even if we\u2019ve been playing by the rules the entire time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ditto for franchise agreements which are written in such a way \u201cthat Subway could change the rules on us at any time, without notice, for anything,\u201d the letter said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Subway\u2019s tight grip over its store\u2019s operations has even prohibited some operators from upgrading the quality of the food they sell, the letter said. But industry sources tell The Post that the pandemic is the only reason the company wasn\u2019t put up for auction last year as initially planned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe plan was to sell in 2020, but by the time the auction would have started the pandemic hit,\u201d said an investor source with knowledge of the company\u2019s plans. His sister Suzanne Greco was even CEO for three years until 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Elisabeth and Johnathan now hold two of Subway\u2019s four board seats. Elisabeth, who could not be immediately reached for comment, worked for a time in Subway\u2019s corporate offices, but now lives in the Miami area and is not believed to be involved in day-to-day decision making.\n            <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
