Martin Scorsese<\/strong>\u2018s next feature film has begun production.\u00a0Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em><\/strong> has officially started principal photography, according to the\u00a0Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF+MO) and App<\/a>le Original Films, the latter of which is producing the project to debut on its streaming platform Apple TV+<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Martin Scorsese\u2019s follow-up to\u00a0The Irishman<\/em> began filming in Oklahoma on April 19, the filmmaker announced. Scorsese said in a statement:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to finally start production on\u00a0Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em>\u00a0in Oklahoma. To be able to tell this story on the land where these events took place is incredibly important and critical to allowing us to portray an accurate depiction of the time and people. We\u2019re grateful to Apple, the Oklahoma Film and Music Office and The Osage Nation, especially all our Osage consultants and cultural advisors, as we prepare for this shoot. We\u2019re excited to start working with our local cast and crew to bring this story to life on screen and immortalize a time in American history that should not be forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Killers of the Flower Moon<\/em>\u00a0is a mystery drama based on the true story and book by David Grann, which chronicles a series<\/a> of murders among the oil-rich Osage Nation in 1920s\u00a0Oklahoma. The string of crimes came to be known as the Reign of Terror and sparked the creation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.\u00a0The film, budgeted at a hefty $200 million, stars\u00a0Jesse Plemons<\/strong>,\u00a0Leonardo DiCaprio<\/strong>, and\u00a0Robert De Niro<\/strong>.\u00a0Tatanka Means<\/strong>\u00a0(I Know This Much is True<\/em>),\u00a0Michael Abbott Jr<\/strong>\u00a0(The Death of Dick Long<\/em>),\u00a0Pat Healy<\/strong>\u00a0(Bad Education<\/em>), and\u00a0Scott Shepherd\u00a0<\/strong>(Bridge of Spies<\/em>) have all signed on as well in supporting roles.<\/p>\n

DiCaprio was initially set to play Tom White, the agent tasked with investigating the murders, but later chose to take on the\u00a0more morally grey character\u00a0Ernest Burkhart instead, leading Scorsese to bring in Jesse Plemons for the Tom White role. Robert DeNiro is playing DiCaprio\u2019s uncle, while\u00a0Lily Gladstone<\/strong>\u00a0is playing DiCaprio\u2019s wife Mollie Burkhart. Other cast members include\u00a0William Belleau<\/strong>,\u00a0Louis Cancelmi<\/strong>,\u00a0Jason Isbell<\/strong>,\u00a0Sturgill Simpson<\/strong>,\u00a0Tantoo Cardinal<\/strong>,\u00a0Cara Jade Myers<\/strong>,\u00a0JaNae Collins<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jillian Dion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
