In this entry, we\u2019re writing about who should win and who will win in the writing categories\u2026<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Best_Adapted_Screenplay\"><\/span>Best Adapted Screenplay<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-364838\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-nomadland.jpg\" alt=\"Oscar Screenplay Nomadland\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-nomadland.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-nomadland-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Academy seems determined to award Sacha Baron Cohen this year. He could take the Best Supporting Actor award for <em>The Trial of the Chicago 7<\/em>, but if they rightfully deny him there, could they pat his back with a win here? Nah. The nominations alone are a validation. <em>Borat Subsequent Moviefilm\u2019s<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earance amongst the rest is deserving. The film is a devilish and irresistible delight that cuts into America in all the right places, during the right time in the right year.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nomadland<\/em> radiates with an Oscar sheen. While its script springs from Jessica Bruder\u2019s book, Chlo\u00e9 Zhao radically transformed the concept, keeping the allure of non-fiction while embracing an impactful, yet truthful fiction. The writer\/director bent its concept to work for her and Frances McDormand, crafting a narrative as painfully relevant to the current <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> and political landscape as \u2013 yes \u2013 <em>Borat Subsequent Moviefilm<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone should steal Zhao\u2019s award from her, it should be Florian Zeller for his exceptional adaptation of his own stage play. <em>The Father<\/em> maintains its powerful tunneling into a deteriorating mind while updating its stagebound locations with the most profoundly cinematic methods. Kemp Powers\u2019 <em>One Night in Miami<\/em> faced similar challenges and succeeded in a few key scenes, but one could still imagine its narrative as a play, whereas <em>The Father<\/em> seems permanently altered to be told exclusively as a film. (Brad Gullickson)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Should Win:<\/strong> Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller,\u00a0<em>The Father<br \/><\/em><strong>Who Will Win:<\/strong> Chlo\u00e9 Zhao,\u00a0<em>Nomadland<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Best_Original_Screenplay\"><\/span>Best Original Screenplay<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-364839\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-trial-of-the-chicago-7.jpg\" alt=\"Oscar Screenplay Trial Of The Chicago\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-trial-of-the-chicago-7.jpg 800w, https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/oscar-screenplay-trial-of-the-chicago-7-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Best Original Screenplay category is a bloody cage match. It\u2019s hard to pick a favorite, as all are enjoyable in some form or another. <em>The Trial of the Chicago 7<\/em> is the most traditional Oscar contestant, and it\u2019s hard to imagine the Academy resisting its big, showy courtroom appeal. Aaron Sorkin\u2019s dialogue rips as usual and provides certain actors a platform to peacock strut. At the same time, there are historical elements that seem sorely lacking. Bobby Seale\u2019s story is woefully underserved and scars the script tremendously.<\/p>\n<p>If the Academy can resist the Sorkin catnip, Emerald Fennell\u2019s <em>Promising Young Woman<\/em> demands recognition. The film propels rapidly through a series of tones, a balancing act that is utterly dizzying to observe. Fennell pulls you through multiple genres, offering a good time until she delivers a catastrophic climax that I\u2019m still grappling with after multiple viewings. <em>Promising Young Woman\u2019s<\/em> screenplay leaves its mark, where <em>Trial of the Chicago 7<\/em> is admirable and stogy with expected beats but feels disposable.
