The neighborhood-specific social<\/a> platform has launched a feature \u2014 the \u201canti-racism notification<\/a>\u201d \u2014 that asks users to think again about posting content that the app<\/a> deems offensive.<\/p>\n

Rolling out this week on web, iOS and Android, the app will give individual users the chance to edit their words before they post them \u2014 though the feature does nothing to prevent the publication of the posts themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cHealthy and productive conversations are key to helping neighbors create stronger, kinder neighborhoods,\u201d the app said in a blog post announcing the launch.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Nextdoor debuted the \u201cKindness Reminder,\u201d which set out to find offensive or hurtful language in replies to users\u2019 posts and also asks users to edit before they make the comments go live. The app said that it has resulted in a 30% reduction in \u201cuncivil content.\u201d<\/p>\n

Regarding the anti-racism notification: An example of words and phrases that Nextdoor considers offensive include \u201cAll Lives Matter\u201d and \u201cBlue Lives Matter,\u201d both of which are already regulated. <\/p>\n

\u201cAs a reminder, All Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter content is explicitly prohibited on Nextdoor when used to undermine racial equality or the Black Lives Matter movement,\u201d the release says. \u201cSupport for White Lives Matter is prohibited on Nextdoor, as it is most commonly associated with white supremacist groups.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a sense, it\u2019s a warning to ensure users know that they may be in violation of Nextdoor\u2019s discrimination policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cConversations on racial justice can be difficult, and they have a profound impact on our neighborhoods,\u201d the blog post reads. \u201cNextdoor exists to foster these important conversations in a civil, respectful way.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
