There is a new mission, but there is also a lot of aftermath to sift through. Think in terms of what\u2019s transpiring with Jason after the trial, with Ray following his traumatic experience, and with Clay now that he and Stella are trying to enter a new place in their relationship.<\/p>\n<p>If you did not know, this episode is also directed by none other than <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> star <strong>Max Thieriot<\/strong>! This marks his second experience behind the director\u2019s chair for the CBS drama, and doing that comes with its fair share of challenges. In part 1 of our interview with Thieriot, he goes through the process of working on this episode, some specific challenges, and the current state of things for his character of Clay. Be sure to come back after the episode tonight for part 2!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt &amp; Jess \u2013 Are you guys finished filming for the season?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Max Thieriot \u2013 Yeah. It\u2019s such a weird feeling since we only did 16 episodes. On one hand, it feels like we haven\u2019t done enough and it feels incomplete; on the other hand, it was such a different experience. It was a lot more work in a lot of ways. It was also later; we usually wrap in the middle of March. It\u2019s weird; it\u2019s like I\u2019m ready to be done, but\u00a0<em>not\u00a0<\/em>ready to be done for the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Is directing an episode something you\u2019re wanting to do every season now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is, for sure. I love directing on\u00a0<em>SEAL Team \u2014\u00a0<\/em>it\u2019s great and I\u2019m working with a lot of people that I knew. The hardest thing for me directing on television is that it\u2019s not your idea.\u00a0<em>SEAL Team\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>not my show. You\u2019re executing someone else\u2019s vision. What you\u2019re trying to do is elevate the material and execute the best version of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> you get. You also get the script you get; there\u2019s no creative process, and it\u2019s basically like \u2018this is your episode.\u2019 It\u2019s weird.<\/p>\n<p>What I\u2019d like to do [eventually] is get into directing film and other stuff I create myself \u2014 it\u2019s more a reflection of me and my vision. At the same time, this is so much fun \u2014 it\u2019s still a lot of work, [and] I\u2019m getting to push myself creatively. Working a little harder is always working a little better for me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s the challenge of doing this particular episode? You\u2019re in this spot where you\u2019re having to tie together loose ends from Jason\u2019s trial, while also setting up a potential new mission, one that could last a while.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The biggest struggle for me directing this episode was that there was so much information and things we were trying to get done before [the characters] left for deployment. Because of [the pandemic], we were forced to tighten our season up on the back end. There were a lot of things we wanted to get across and get done that we had to eat up in a short period of time. That\u2019s always challenging, right? You can\u2019t play these things over two episodes, so I had to find a way to squeeze them into one and then tell the beginning of a deployment.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s difficult when you\u2019re trying to fit that much [material] in there, but it\u2019s the challenge that makes it fun. We all, as directors, love to get an episode where there are helicopters and crazy action and blowing up stuff all day. But honestly, when you\u2019re trying to challenge yourself, having an episode like this where you\u2019re trying to convey all of this information and keep it tight, and also keep the emotion and the weight of each scene, is more helpful. I\u2019m learning more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the standpoint of Clay, what\u2019s coming up for him now? He\u2019s just hit this new point in his personal life [with Stella], so how does he balance that out with the challenge of yet another mission?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leading up to these episodes, Clay\u2019s always been one of those SEALs who was naturally gifted. He had the natural ability. In his mind, he always wanted to take that and be better. He had this [idea] of \u2018I can do everything \u2014 a lot of guys can only do one or two things, but I can do all of these things together. I can operate and still have a family at home.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a big personal journey for Clay through the end of the season. He\u2019s figuring out\u00a0<em>how\u00a0<\/em>to do all of those things, especially when he realizes that he hasn\u2019t actually seen someone who\u2019s been able to do both things. Just when he thought that a guy like Ray was able to have it all together, he\u2019s realizing that he can\u2019t do it either.
