Yet \u201cthose are not the conclusions being reached by liberal politicians\u201d and activists. As the judge and jurors had to \u201cconduct a trial amid an atmosphere of fear,\u201d major figures not only failed to denounce the possibility of violence after an acquittal, they sent the message that we would \u201cdeserve\u201d to have protesters \u201cburn things down.\u201d Post-verdict, President Biden \u201cstruck a negative tone,\u201d pushing the narrative that the United States \u201chas been, for hundreds of years, a racist, dystopian nightmare.\u201d This is \u201cnot only inaccurate, but divisive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Neocon: Dems\u2019s New Elite Loyalties<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For a sign of \u201chow the Democratic Party has left its working-class roots behind and become the party of the elite,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commentarymagazine.com\/john-steele-gordon\/constituency-maintenance-party-elites\/\">writes John Steele Gordon at Commentary<\/a>, look no further than various student-loan-forgiveness proposals. Debt \u201cforgiveness,\u201d of course, is really debt transfer: Declining to collect from upper-middle-income college grads, whose degrees on average earn them $1 million more over a lifetime, would shift the burden to others, including working- and middle-class Americans. By contrast, \u201cno progressive is proposing that if a high school graduate borrows $50,000 to finance a truck that will allow him to increase his future income, the federal government should take over that loan. People who make a living .\u2009.\u2009. driving a truck don\u2019t get much attention from progressives these days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Portlander: How Anarchists Captured My Town<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A sign at Petunia\u2019s bakery pleads: \u201cWe are a small, women- and locally owned business. .\u2009.\u2009. We are struggling like so many of us in this hard time and love our community. Please don\u2019t cause us any damage.\u201d It\u2019s part of the \u201cnow-widespread attempt by local business owners to make anarchists think twice before vandalizing their shop or caf\u00e9,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/unherd.com\/2021\/04\/how-anarchists-captured-portland\/\">fumes Portland resident Bret Weinstein at UnHerd<\/a>. \u201cResidents know they cannot depend on the police to either prevent crimes or arrest those who commit them,\u201d and \u201cno neighborhood is secure from the current wave of terror; the breaking of shop fronts, arson and harassment of sleeping citizens in their homes are all commonplace.\u201d Sadly, \u201cvoices of reason on the left\u201d have given up in the face of \u201cextremists who deliberately conflate a \u00addemand for racial justice with a desire to burn civilization to the ground.\u201d The civic impotence \u201cis sealing the city\u2019s fate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foreign desk: Biden\u2019s Incoherence on Russia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By \u201cbluntly and accurately\u201d calling Vladmir Putin \u201ca killer,\u201d President Biden \u201cbrought a dramatic change in America\u2019s tone toward Russia,\u201d showing that \u201che saw no need to be diplomatic about the leader of a regime that has repeatedly attacked US interests,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/why-would-biden-want-a-summit-with-putin-whom-he-calls-a-killer-11618780332\">notes Garry Kasparov at The Wall Street Journal<\/a>. But Biden ruined that last week by inviting Putin to a summit meeting, signaling that the Russian strongman is \u201cstill worthy of the support of the oligarchs and elites whose fortunes he guarantees.\u201d It\u2019s back to the same old cycle: \u201cPutin attacks; the West retaliates weakly, then offers concessions for dialogue until Mr. Putin attacks again.\u201d Yet Washington \u201chas the ability to threaten an overwhelming response to Mr. Putin\u2019s invasions, hacking, election meddling and assassinations\u201d \u2014 if Biden would just find the will.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: China\u2019s Empty Climate Promises<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Team Biden weather envoy John Kerry returned from talks in China suggesting he had \u201cachieved some sort of climate-change breakthrough,\u201d but any \u201cprogress at all in Shanghai this month .\u2009.\u2009. was entirely rhetorical,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/john-kerry-in-earth-day-wonderland\">concludes the Washington Examiner\u2019s Hugo Gurdon<\/a>. \u201cBeijing is an infamously effective negotiator willing to say whatever is expedient,\u201d while pocketing \u201cany concessions it can extract from whichever hopeful interlocutor comes begging, then ratchet up its demands in exchange for more nonbinding promises.\u201d All Kerry really got was \u201csmiling vagueness.\u201d President \u201cBiden and Kerry are bent [on] weakening the US and strengthening its enemies\u201d without achieving meaningful climate gains.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014 Compiled by The Post Editorial Board<\/em>\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
