It works in all traffic and weather conditions and during the day and at night.<\/p>\n<p>Images that are deemed likely to contain a mobile phone offense are verified by a member of staff.<\/p>\n<p>The trial was conducted while stage four COVID-19 restrictions were in place in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, it\u2019s anticipated the rate of offending could be higher when roads are busier and movement isn\u2019t restricted,\u201d a statement from the Victorian government said.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seatbelt_detection\"><\/span>Seatbelt detection<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Victoria plans to roll the technology out for enforcement by 2023, following further stakeholder consultation, technology testing and demonstrations, as well as a public awareness campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The technology is part of Victoria\u2019s Road Safety Strategy which aims to halve deaths and significantly reduce injuries by 2030, towards a goal of zero road deaths by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Research from Monash University Accident Research Center (MUARC) has estimated that widespread use of automated mobile phone enforcement could prevent 95 casualty crashes per year in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>The trial also found the technology can detect drivers who are not wearing a seatbelt, with one in 667 found to be committing the offense state-wide. Other dangerous behaviors, such as driving without hands on the wheel or with pets on laps, were also observed.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"National_trend\"><\/span>National trend<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Danny Pearson, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, said: \u201cUsing your phone while driving is unbelievably dangerous, and this trial has showed just how common it is on Victorian roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unacceptable that so many Victorians are putting others\u2019 lives at risk \u2013 which is why we\u2019re investing $33 million to install this new distracted driver technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A similar system has been deployed in New South Wales <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au\/stayingsafe\/mobilephones\/technology.html\">since 2019<\/a> and was described as a \u2018world first\u2019 at the time.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the state of Victoria\u2019s Justice and Community Safety department told <em>Cities Today<\/em>: \u201cWhile\u00a0NSW\u00a0has already piloted and has recently started enforcing mobile phone offenses using the\u00a0Acusensus\u00a0technology, a separate Victorian pilot is required to assess the camera system for compatibility with Victoria\u2019s existing Road Safety Camera Systems, in addition to assessing the overall performance of the new technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Queensland has also trialed AI-enabled cameras to detect illegal mobile phone use and failure to wear a seatbelt. The state has issued a tender to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>oint a vendor and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tmr.qld.gov.au\/cameradetectiontrial#:~:text=Trialling%20this%20new%20technology%20to,a%20high%20degree%20of%20accuracy.\">plans to roll the technology out<\/a> later this year.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><i><span>Do EVs excite your electrons?
