Michael Kors\u2019 40th-anniversary show<\/a> was an ode to Broadway, complete with a star-studded (virtual) audience, a supermodel-packed runway and an homage to some of the iconic American designer\u2019s greatest hits.<\/p>\n

In what could best be described as a Theater District takeover perfect for saluting coronavirus-sidelined productions, the opening act revealed a Zoom call packed with Broadway mega-stars \u2014 including Bette Midler, Billy Porter, Debra Messing, Cynthia Nixon and Chita Rivera, to name a few \u2014 whose screens app<\/a>eared to be placed on the legendary walls of one of Kors\u2019 go-to restaurants, Sardi\u2019s. <\/p>\n

They riffed off each other while also asking viewers who tuned in to consider donating to The Actors Fund<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A highlight included Jane Krakowski playfully mocking Midler\u2019s malfunctioning screen: \u201cOK, we\u2019re a year into this \u2014 how are you still muted, Bette?\u201d<\/p>\n

The second act revealed Shalom Harlow leading a supermodel lineup strutting on 45th Street in a collection that\u2019s best described as classically Kors: all-American luxury sportswear infused with the designer\u2019s penchant for effortless glamour. <\/p>\n

In preparation for this landmark collection, Kors admitted to keeping \u201creally s\u2013tty archives,\u201d as he would liberally gift friends who loved iconic pieces from seasons past. Despite that, there was no shortage of clothes that celebrated \u2014 as Kors succinctly summed what we are all craving \u2014 \u201cstepping out again.\u201d <\/p>\n

Offerings were mostly monochromatic looks in neutral hues \u2014 black, cream, red, gold, hints of animal prints and what Kors dubbed \u201cprovocative camel.\u201d Think sequined turtlenecks styled with relaxed-fit pants, open-shoulder knits topped over thigh-high slit pencil skirts, crystal-covered gray pinstrip<\/a>e suits, and \u2014 as Kors exclaimed, \u201cif you must wear yoga pants!\u201d \u2014 dress them up with an oversized faux-fur trimmed coat and pointy-toe slingbacks. <\/p>\n

Some looks were accompanied with QR codes \u2014 a nod to how we cue up menus when dining outdoors \u2014 that would reveal the garment\u2019s origin story: most notably, the red patent coat worn by Bella Hadid. Fun fact: Cindy Crawford modeled the original version of that look on Kors\u2019 runway in 1991. <\/p>\n

Act 3 concluded the spectacle with a \u201990s supermodel lineup, which was preceded by an already super lineup including Irina Shayk, Alek Wek, Paloma Elsesser and Ashley Graham. Helena Christensen, Carolyn Murphy and Naomi Campbell \u2014 who closed the show \u2014 sauntered in wearing sparkly gowns, some of which were topped with sweeping outerwear. <\/p>\n

The glamorous wares and the women wearing them were made wholly vibrant against a Times Square backdrop and Rufus Wainwright singing \u201cNew York State of Mind.\u201d It\u2019s safe to say that this best-in-show moment felt one step closer to turning the city\u2019s lights back on. <\/p>\n
