\n A Milwaukee man who attended protests over the police-involved death of George Floyd said he received a curfew citation in the mail after he documented his whereabouts on social media, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

Demetrius Griffin told WDJT-TV he received the $691 citation in the mail Wednesday, for a violation the night of May 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cSubject violated emergency curfew that was set by mayor for the hours of 9 p.m. \u2013 7 a.m.,\u201d said the citation, obtained by the outlet. \u201cVideo available.\u201d<\/p>\n

He livestreamed his whereabouts that night \u2014 and continued to do so for the next five days, his Facebook feed shows.<\/p>\n

Griffin told the outlet he feels \u201csomething\u2019s not right\u201d about the citation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it\u2019s just a scare tactic, they\u2019re trying to intimidate me,\u201d he said. \u201cThey don\u2019t like the stuff I [post] so\u2026they put $691 for breaking a curfew.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear whether the citation is legitimate. The notice, filled out by hand, says it was issued by the Milwaukee Police Department\u2019s \u201cVirtual Investigation Unit,\u201d and is in Spanish \u2014 but Griffin said he does not speak Spanish.<\/p>\n

It includes Griffin\u2019s driver\u2019s license number and a signature by an officer. He told the outlet he only knows of two other people who have received similar tickets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re using stuff like this to make us shut up about our First Amendments because we are just out peacefully protesting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales told the station he hasn\u2019t seen Griffin\u2019s notice himself \u2014 but that the department doesn\u2019t have the capacity to search for people to dole out curfew citations based on social media posts. At times, however, social media posts are used in an attempt to nab someone who committed a larger crime, he said.<\/p>\n

Milwaukee criminal defense attorney Nicole Muller told the station she\u2019s never seen a citation like Griffin\u2019s before, but confirmed her firm has received multiple protest-related citations and arrests.<\/p>\n

The ticket number could not be found through a search of the Milwaukee Municipal Court System, according to the report \u2014 but Muller told the outlet there could be a backlog due to the ongoing protests.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
