\n Shares of Twitter spiked as much as 8 percent Wednesday after the company hinted it\u2019s building a subscription platform codenamed \u201cGryphon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Engineers for subscription platform, Twitter says in a job listing,\u00a0are working closely with Twitter\u2019s payments team, and the listing is looking for someone to \u201clead the payment and subscription client work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Twitter last year struck a truce with billionaire Paul Singer\u2019s hedge fund Elliott Management, which was looking to oust CEO Jack Dorsey over the company\u2019s weak stock performance compared to other social networking giants.<\/p>\n

As a part of the truce, Twitter agreed to \u201caccelerate revenue growth on a\u00a0year-over-year\u00a0basis and gain share in the digital advertising market.\u201d<\/p>\n

A representative for Twitter did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

The stock climb also came as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the government was looking at banning popular social media app TikTok because of its connections to China.<\/p>\n

The top US diplomat said Americans should be careful using the app, which is owned by China-based ByteDance.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly if you want your private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party,\u201d Pompeo said when asked if he would recommend people to download TikTok.<\/p>\n

Shares of Twitter were up 7.5 percent Wednesday afternoon, trading at $35.46.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
