Sub-Zero actor\u00a0Joe Taslim<\/strong>, who plays the iconic villain in the upcoming\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em><\/strong>, has revealed that he\u2019s signed on for four more\u00a0sequels. Flawless victory (for Mortal Kombat<\/em> fans)!<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0interview with Variety<\/a>\u00a0for its Just for Variety podcast, Indonesian actor and martial artist\u00a0Joe Taslim<\/strong>\u00a0revealed that he\u2019s signed on for four more\u00a0Mortal Kombat\u00a0<\/em>sequels as Sub-Zero \u2014 if Warner Bros. decides to keep going with the franchise.
\n\u201cIf this one\u2019s successful, maybe we do more,\u201d Taslim said, after breaking the news<\/a> on the podcast.<\/p>\n

The upcoming\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em> serves as a reboot of the franchise based on the popular video game<\/a> franchise, which spawned two live-action films in the \u201990s. Though the first was a box office success, the two\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em> \u201990s films failed to break the \u201cvideo game curse,\u201d which refers to the poor Hollywood track record for video game adaptations, which are mostly critical and commercial flops. But Warner Bros. seems confident that the upcoming\u00a0Mortal Kombat<\/em> directed by\u00a0Simon McQuoid will reverse that curse, and has prepared the cast for potential sequels.<\/p>\n

For what it\u2019s worth, Taslim, who broke out in the 2011 Indonesian action hit\u00a0The Raid<\/em>\u00a0and has popped up in memorable roles in\u00a0Fast & Furious 6<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Star Trek Beyond<\/em>, is game to stick by the\u00a0Mortal Kombat\u00a0<\/em>franchise. In the interview with Variety, he spoke about his long relationship with the game franchise, starting when he was 12 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was born in South Sumatra. We were poor so I didn\u2019t have the console because it\u2019s expensive. I went to my friend\u2019s house every day to play the game. But you get there and there are like 10 kids lining up. Who wins keeps playing\u2026so it takes me to get to my part like 40 minutes,\u201d Taslim said.<\/p>\n

Mortal Kombat<\/em>\u00a0is set to release in theaters and HBO Max on April 23, 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
