Excited about\u00a0The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It<\/em><\/strong> and want more\u00a0Conjuring<\/em> goodness? You\u2019re in luck! DC is launching a new label called DC Horror, and they\u2019re kicking things off with a limited series<\/a> prequel called\u00a0The Conjuring: The Lover<\/em>. Written by\u00a0The Devil Made Me Do It<\/em> screenwriter\u00a0David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick<\/strong> along with\u00a0Rex Ogle<\/strong>, and featuring art by\u00a0Garry Brown<\/strong>, the\u00a0five-issue limited series is described as a \u201cprelude\u201d to the new\u00a0Conjuring<\/em> movie.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not a big comics guy \u2013 I dabble here and there \u2013 but I\u2019m such a sucker for the\u00a0Conjuring<\/em> franchise that I\u2019m definitely going to check out\u00a0The Conjuring: The Lover<\/em>, a five-issue limited comic coming from new DC imprint DC Horror.\u00a0\u201cFrom early titles like House of Mystery<\/em> and House of Secrets<\/em> to current series featuring Swamp Thing<\/em> and John Constantine: Hellblazer<\/em>, DC has always been the home of great horror comics and characters,\u201d said DC editor-in-chief Marie Javins (via Games Radar<\/a>). \u201cDC Horror continues this tradition with new frightening tales from both well-known and new storytellers that will keep fans spooked and entertained.\u201d
\nThe Lover<\/em> \u201csets up\u00a0The Devil Made Me Do It<\/em>, expanding the tragic story of Jessica, a college freshman returning to campus after winter break, bringing with her the anxieties of last semester\u2019s poor grades, the awkwardness of facing a boy she wishes she\u2019d never slept with, and an undeniably unnerving feeling of being watched. Jessica soon comes to realize that something evil has made her its target, and it will not rest until it has her in its unholy grip. But why did this sinister presence set its sights on a seemingly normal college freshman?\u201d<\/p>\n

The comic series will also \u201cfeature backup stories that further explore the mysteries of the artifact room of Lorraine and Ed Warren from The Conjuring<\/em> universe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having not seen\u00a0The Devil Made Me Do It<\/em> yet, I\u2019m unsure how this story ties into that. But in the upcoming film,\u00a0Lorraine and Ed Warren (Vera Farmiga<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Patrick Wilson<\/strong>) investigate the case of\u00a0Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a young man on trial for murder who claims demonic possession forced him to kill.<\/p>\n

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It<\/em> opens on June 4<\/strong>, which is the same day\u00a0The Conjuring: The Lover<\/em> will launch. Check out some cover art below.<\/p>\n
