A New Zealand cat now named Peanut has finally been rescued after running loose for two weeks with his head caught in a peanut butter jar.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was our last chance,\u201d Annaliese England, Matamata Animal Trust manager, said of finally wrangling the trapp<\/a>ed tabby on Monday, Stuff reports.<\/p>\n

The stray was first spotted in someone\u2019s backyard, whereupon residents tried unsuccessfully to capture him, sparking a community-wide cat hunt.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the group effort proved equally fruitless as \u201che just kept running when people spotted him,\u201d said England. Not only that, but attempts to trap Peanut were hindered by the fact that he couldn\u2019t smell the bait with his head stuck in the container.<\/p>\n

However, just when England had given up all hope of nabbing the evasive feline, she received word that Peanut had been spotted in a garden about 2 miles from his previous sighting.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey called me, and we barricaded off the garden with crates,\u201d said the cat rescuer, who initially had a hard time corralling her tabby as he was up against a trellis. She was finally able to use a pole with a rope to loop Peanut\u2019s neck, before he could vanish into the crop fields behind him.<\/p>\n

England immedia<\/a>tely rushed him to the vet, where they were forced to sedate the poor kitty before relieving him of his portable prison.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was pretty skinny,\u201d Peanut\u2019s savior said of his condition. She deduced that the jar, which encased the kitty\u2019s entire head past his ears, had restricted his air flow and forced him to go for two weeks without food or water.<\/p>\n

Despite Peanut\u2019s jarring ordeal, England is confident that the fortunate feline will find a forever home \u2014 that\u2019s not a plastic peanut container. Peanut is currently slated to go to a foster home and get spayed in preparation for a new owner, a position that England claims many are vying for.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be nice that he will get to see what a family is like,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Peanut\u2019s not the only one saved from a tight spot as of late. Last week, some kind-hearted Wisconsin boaters rescued a baby black bear who they discovered swimming with its head stuck in a plastic tub.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, animals getting ensnared by various receptacles is becoming increasingly common amid the global spike in plastic pollution, which has been found everywhere from the Alaskan wilderness to the Mariana Trench.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
