\n The co-founder of Reddit announced his resignation from the popular web forum\u2019s board on Friday, and asked that he be replaced by a black candidate.<\/p>\n

Alexis Ohanian, who is married to Serena Williams and has a child with the tennis superstar, tweeted that he was leaving his board seat, saying \u201cit is long overdue to do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am doing this for me, for my family and for my country,\u201d Ohanian said in a recorded video segment. \u201cI am saying this as a father who needs to answer his black daughter when she asks \u2018what did you do.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Ohanian added that he will use future gains on his Reddit stock to serve the black community, \u201cchiefly, to curb racial hate.\u201d He pledged $1 million to Colin Kaepernick\u2019s Know Your Rights Camp legal defense initiative, joining Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey who on Thursday donated $3 million to the charity.<\/p>\n

Ohanian has been at Reddit since 2005, when he co-founded the company along with CEO Steve Huffman.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
