Sometimes your hands are full and can\u2019t grab your phone to type out a text message. Thankfully, Google Assistant makes it easy to send SMS with only your voice. We\u2019ll show you how it works on phones and smart speakers.<\/p>\n

The process for sending a text message with Google Assistant is actually identical on every device. The only difference is how you wake up Assistant to start listening.<\/p>\n

On an Android phone or tablet, launch\u00a0Assistant<\/a>\u00a0by saying, \u201cOK, Google,\u201d or by swiping in from the bottom-left or -right corner. It will immedia<\/a>tely start listening.<\/p>\n

On an iPhone or iPad, you\u2019ll need to install the\u00a0Google Assistant app<\/a>\u00a0and launch it from the home screen. After you open the app<\/a>, say, \u201cOK, Google\u201d or tap the microphone icon, and Assistant will begin listening.<\/p>\n

For smart speakers and displays, just like with the Nest Mini and Nest Hub, you simply need to say \u201cHey Google\u201d within the range of the device.<\/p>\n

Once Google Assistant has begun listening on your device of choice, it\u2019s just a matter of saying one of the following commands:<\/p>\n

  • \u201cSend a message to Mom.\u201d<\/li>\n
  • \u201cSend a message.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    If you say \u201cSend a Message\u201d without a contact name, Google will ask who you want to send the message to. Say the name of anyone in your contacts.<\/p>\n

    After you\u2019ve chosen a person, Google will ask for the message that you want to send. Simply say what you would like to send to that person.<\/p>\n

    Lastly, Google will confirm the message with you and it will then be sent. You will have an opportunity to change it at this time if it\u2019s not quite right.<\/p>\n

    That\u2019s all there is to it! If a text message isn\u2019t working for you, there\u2019s also the option to send an audio message\u00a0with Google Assistant. It works in a very similar way.<\/p>\n
