“#Director Adam McKay Describes Don’t Look Up Tone \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

One of my most anticipated movies<\/a> of 2021 is Don\u2019t Look Up<\/strong><\/em>, the latest movie from Anchorman<\/em> and Vice<\/em> director Adam McKay<\/strong>. It\u2019s a dark comedy about \u201ctwo low-level astronomers who embark on a media<\/a> tour to warn mankind of an app<\/a>roaching asteroid that will destroy Earth,\u201d and it has a ridiculously stacked cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio<\/strong>, Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong>, Chris Evans<\/strong>, and many more.<\/p>\n

The movie will arrive on Netflix in either November or December this year, and in a new interview, McKay says that the film\u2019s tone falls somewhere between his 2010 cop comedy The Other Guys<\/em> and his 2015 financial crisis movie The Big Short<\/em>.
<\/span><\/p>\n

On the latest episode of the Happy Sad Confused<\/a> podcast, McKay was asked where Don\u2019t Look Up<\/em> falls on the spectrum of tones of projects he\u2019s worked on in the past. \u201cDefinitely not as dark as Vice<\/em>,\u201d he answered. \u201cVice<\/em>, I\u2019d say,\u00a0really probably ended up being a drama with some comedy. But Big Short<\/em>, still, even though there\u2019s drama in it \u2013 I would say this one is a tad more of a comedy than\u00a0The Big Short<\/em>\u2026I don\u2019t know if the Ferrell movies, because they\u2019re so uniquely Will Ferrell \u2013 but somewhere in between The Other Guys<\/em> and The Big Short<\/em>, I\u2019d say, is where this one lives.\u201d
\nIf it\u2019s been a while since you\u2019ve seen The Other Guys<\/em>, that film paired Ferrell with Mark Wahlberg as two desk cops who try to solve a big case after their department\u2019s best detectives accidentally kill themselves. The first half is very funny, but the tone shifts in the second half and marks the first time that McKay\u2019s real-world interest in exposing wrongdoing in this country\u2019s financial sector is explored in one of his features. And of course, The Big Short<\/em>, while covering some serious subject matter, has plenty of humor in it. (Ryan Gosling\u2019s performance is one of the comedic highlights.)<\/p>\n

Aside from DiCaprio, Lawrence, and Evans, this movie also stars\u00a0Meryl Streep<\/strong>, Jonah Hill<\/strong>, Rob Morgan<\/strong>,\u00a0Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/strong>,\u00a0Ariana Grande<\/strong>,\u00a0Kid Cudi<\/strong>,\u00a0Matthew Perry<\/strong>,\u00a0Himesh Patel<\/strong>,\u00a0Tomer Sisley<\/strong>,\u00a0Tyler Perry<\/strong>, Melanie Lynskey<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ron Perlman<\/strong>.
