We all have apps on our iPhones that are sensitive in nature or contain private information that could use an extra layer of security. While you can\u2019t directly lock apps on your iPhone, a Screen Time workaround allows you to restrict an app\u2019s access. Here\u2019s how to use it.<\/p>\n

The trick to locking apps on an iPhone or iPad involves imposing the minimum daily limit on their use. Once you max out the limit, you\u2019ll have to enter your Screen Time passcode to open the app. The only downside to this method is that you\u2019ll have to manually exhaust the Screen Time limit every day to activate the lock.<\/p>\n

To get started, open the \u201cSettings\u201d app and choose the \u201cScreen Time\u201d option on your iPhone or iPad.<\/p>\n

Tap the \u201cTurn On Screen Time\u201d button to enable Apple\u2019s screen time management tool on your iPhone or iPad.<\/p>\n

From the following confirmation message, hit the \u201cContinue\u201d button.\u00a0On the next screen, select \u201cThis is My iPhone.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the \u201cScreen Time\u201d menu, select the \u201cApp Limits\u201d option.<\/p>\n

Toggle on the \u201cApp Limits\u201d listing.<\/p>\n

Set the limit\u2019s time to a single minute.<\/p>\n

Tap the \u201cAdd\u201d link in the top-right corner to continue.<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re done configuring the limit, return to the \u201cScreen Time\u201d settings page. Scroll down and set your passcode with \u201cUse Screen Time Passcode.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, it\u2019s important to note that your iPhone or iPad won\u2019t automatically lock the app. It will only happen after you\u2019ve used the app for a minute. In addition to that, you\u2019ll also need to wear out the subsequent option to extend the limit by a minute.<\/p>\n

In order to do that, leave the app open for a minute. Once the \u201cScreen Time\u201d alert appears, tap \u201cAsk For More Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, select \u201cOne More Minute.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the additional minute has passed, the only way to access that app is to enter the Screen Time passcode.<\/p>\n

For the rest of the day, your iPhone or iPad app will have an extra layer of security.<\/p>\n
