About 20 regulars donned tuxedos and evening gowns and gathered to watch the Oscars telecast projected on one of the restaurant\u2019s walls.\u00a0Party-goers sipped movie-inspired cocktails and enjoyed a sumptuous feast prepared by chef Pietro Mosconi, Peter\u2019s father, but the event really took off in Year 2, when guests dressed like gangsters and flappers to match a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2017\/09\/05\/carey-mulligan-didnt-like-her-performance-in-great-gatsby\/?_ga=2.24165626.1779172785.1619016708-1620225911.1606143209\">\u201cGreat Gatsby\u201d<\/a> motif, inspired by the Leonardo DiCaprio film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just became a thing,\u201d Dr. Mike said. \u201cAnd the party got bigger and bigger.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" alt=\"Monte's is prepping for this year's annual Oscar party. Fun movie quizzes happen throughout the evening while guests indulge in free-flowing cocktails inspired by the year\u2019s Best Picture nominees.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>For dessert, everyone enjoys Pietro\u2019s homemade cookies, Oscar-shaped statuettes caked in edible gold glitter. But the months since then have been difficult. At various times Monte\u2019s has been closed, limited to outdoor dining only or open just for delivery. The staff (many of whom have been at Monte\u2019s for decades) have struggled. Two employees came down with COVID and a third died from it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a tough year,\u201d Peter Mosconi said.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why everyone is so looking forward to Monte\u2019s ninth annual Oscar gala this Sunday. It will be all about rebirth, with a theme of \u201cSpring Awakening\u201d and a color palette of pink, rose, lilac and gold. The night\u2019s specialty drinks \u2014 which you can make at home (see below) \u2014 include The Desert Rendezvous: a nod to a moment in Best Picture front-runner \u201cNomadland\u201d when Frances McDormand offers her fellow road traveler a beer in a gesture of camaraderie (the \u201ccocktail\u201d is actually a can of Peroni Nastro, served with or without a glass).<\/p>\n<p>Pandemic-era concessions will be made, of course, with guests wearing masks and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>-distancing rules still in effect. Attendees also won\u2019t be able to congregate at the bar like normal, while Dr. Mike\u2019s \u201cred carpet\u201d interviews will happen tableside.<\/p>\n<p>But optimism still abounds, John Bennett insisted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all looking forward to it.
