Hip-hop legend DMX\u00a0stopped traffic one last time Saturday \u2014 with his casket aboard a monster truck that was part of his high octane memorial procession that growled from Yonkers to Brooklyn\u2019s Barclay\u2019s Center, where thousands showed up for the rapp<\/a>er\u2019s 4 p.m. memorial service.<\/p>\n

The procession began at around noon in Yonkers \u2014 where the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, grew up. It was led by hundreds of motorcycles, and the rapper\u2019s shiny red coffin was borne on the flatbed of a souped-up monster truck, with \u201cLong Live DMX\u201d emblazoned on the sides of the vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundreds of bikes, ATVs, cars going down Flatbush in the DMX procession toward Barclays,\u201d one eyewitness tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The rapper\u2019s casket arrived at Barclay\u2019s just after 2 p.m.<\/p>\n

The brash procession \u2014 which caused street closings, lane restrictions and heavy congestion \u2014 was a nod to the motorcycle-loving Ruff Ryders, a rap group with whom DMX rose to stardom, and even had its own name: \u201cRuff Ryders 2 The Rescue: Ryde 4 Life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some 200 NYPD cops and traffic enforcement officers have been assigned to the event and helicopters are expect to whir overhead, police sources told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cCops will be stationed along the route and there will be a heavy police presence,\u201d a law enforcement source said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTemporary closures south on the Major Deegan to the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge to the westbound Grand Central Parkway,\u201d the NYPD tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Per New York State COVID-19\u00a0guidelines, Barclays is permitted to host 10 percent of its capacity.\u00a0 The arena seats up to 19,000 seats for concerts, and has 101 luxury suites,\u00a0according to its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Organizers said in a statement they will follow New York COVID-19 testing guidelines and protocols. The ceremony will be livestreamed on DMX\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/a><\/p>\n

The NYPD estimated that 2,000 motorcyclists joined in the memorial procession \u2014 and was on hand with a \u201csignificant deployment\u201d including by police helicopter a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are plans for a procession to pass through multiple boroughs with 2,000 motorcycles and numerous cars with the final destination at a major public venue in the heart of downtown Brooklyn,\u201d the rep said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis significant deployment is a common sense decision for public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barclays wouldn\u2019t say if they chipped in for security. \u201cWe aren\u2019t at liberty to discuss the financial arrangements of our events,\u201d a Barclays spokeswoman told The Post on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The rapper died April 9<\/a> following after suffering a catastrophic cardiac arrest after an April 2\u00a0drug overdose<\/a>\u00a0that left him\u00a0in a \u201cvegetative state.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The Mount Vernon-born dad of 15 moved to Yonkers as a boy and was as talented as he was troubled. <\/p>\n

He made his name battling in street circles and had an infamous battle with Jay-Z back in 1993 before the two were famous. He went on to be\u00a0one of the most successful<\/a>\u00a0commercial rappers of all time.\n <\/div>\n
