White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claims President Biden didn\u2019t mean to describe the border crisis as \u201ca crisis,\u201d yet that\u2019s precisely the term he used, notes the Washington Examiner\u2019s Byron York<\/a>. This shows how \u201cdetermined the Biden White House is to deny that there is a crisis on the border.\u201d And it\u2019s clear why: It\u2019s \u201ca crisis of Biden\u2019s own making.\u201d This White House \u201chas no problem at all talking about crises, as long as it can blame them on other people.\u201d Indeed, Psaki & Co. use the word \u201cvirtually every day\u201d: the \u201cclimate crisis,\u201d the gun-violence \u201ccrisis,\u201d the \u201cchild-care crisis created by COVID-19,\u201d the \u201cmaternal-health crisis.\u201d They\u2019re \u201chapp<\/a>y to talk about crises \u2014 as long as they haven\u2019t been created by Team Biden itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pandemic journal: The Feds\u2019 Foolish J&J Pause<\/strong><\/p>\n

The feds\u2019 Johnson & Johnson vaccine pause \u201cwill cost American lives,\u201d fumes Marc A. Thiessen at The Washington Post<\/a>, but \u201ctheir deaths do not factor\u201d into bureaucrats\u2019 calculations \u201cbecause no one will ever know the names of those who perished\u201d from being denied the vaccine \u2014 while health officials \u201care held to account\u201d for those who die from it. \u201cThese perverse incentives are costing lives.\u201d Brown University\u2019s Ashish Jha calculates \u201ceach unvaccinated day the risk of death is 1 in 100,000. The risk of death after taking the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, by contrast, is 1 in 7.4 million.\u201d Because COVID can cause blood clots, even the possible J&J side effect of causing clots doesn\u2019t hurt your chances. But politicians only jump on bureaucrats for wrongly approving drugs, not delaying needed ones.<\/p>\n

From the left: Listen to the Workers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Workers at Amazon\u2019s Bessemer, Ala., warehouse \u201cvoted by a margin of more than two to one not to join a union,\u201d and pro-labor groups \u201cshould be listening to the message,\u201d advises ex-Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at Bloomberg Opinion<\/a>. \u201cWorkers are better positioned to assess their own employment situation than elected officials in Washington, or anyone else for that matter,\u201d and those at Amazon failed to see the value of paying union dues. Instead of coming up with \u201ca more attractive deal,\u201d unions have simply \u201crejected the result and attacked the process.\u201d A competition between management and unions would benefit Amazon employees, but for now, the company seems to be offering them \u201cwhat the union could not: a better deal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Social-media watch: Twitter<\/a>\u2019s Silence on LeBron<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the Daily Caller, Mary Margaret Olohan reports that Twitter<\/a> won\u2019t say whether LA Lakers star LeBron James violated its terms of service by tweeting \u201cYOU\u2019RE NEXT\u201d along with a picture of the cop who shot Ma\u2019Khia Bryant as she tried to stab another teen. Twitter forbids users from targeting and harassing people or inciting others to do so, but the company didn\u2019t respond to a query before James deleted the tweet, then later claimed its \u201cteams do not evaluate Tweets that have been removed.\u201d Meanwhile, Twitter itself \u201csparked a backlash through its description of Bryant\u2019s death\u201d on Wednesday \u201cthat made no mention of the fact that Bryant had a knife and was attempting to stab another black woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Enough Hygiene Theater<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 9\/11 attacks gave us security theater, \u201cand now we have pandemic hygiene theater to give uninformed people a false sense of control and sustain their fear,\u201d scoffs Veronique de Rugy at Reason<\/a>. Consider the endless wiping down of surfaces at restaurants and other public businesses, a relic of our early misunderstanding of the virus. Or temperature checks of schoolchildren, though Dr. Anthony Fauci admitted last August \u201cchecks \u2018are notoriously inaccurate\u2019\u200a\u201d and \u201cup to 40 percent of Americans with COVID-19 are asymptomatic.\u201d Some of these behaviors may merely seem silly. \u201cBut hygiene theater has huge costs and wastes precious resources. It also keeps Americans unjustifiably scared,\u201d while pushing the delusion of \u201ca world free of risks.\u201d<\/p>\n
